abu is very sensitive and he doesn't have the most tact in the world - he talked to her on the phone and said - grandma are you going to die? - she hung up about 30 seconds later

it will not be helpful for him to question every tube or bag that is hanging from her

i can't even think of the realm of possibilities of questions he may ask - ask Auntie Marilyn she knows what i'm talking about

the hard part is that this is all new

this is not a previous diagnosis of cancer

on tuesday - she went to atlantic city - not sick, wednesday not feeling good (joking about having swine flu), thursday go to the doctor, friday in the hospital, cancer diagnosis by tuesday - whew!

by friday - diagnosed with cancer - first time ever

you guys have gotten me through so much

perhaps a chat beforehand to impress on him that this is not the time to ask questions and why? but i hear u. it's just the old jamaican in me that is thinking about life and death and rituals and how children need to be brought along with some of that stuff. so pls forgive me if i come across a way.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Seveen. Continued prayers for her and you all.

My dad had lung cancer but he didn't tell us kids how bad it was. It was by chance that my sister and her son found out he was hospitalized and he was none to happy that she found him there - he didn't want us to see him like that. He passed a few days after. Everyone handles things differently - he wanted us to remember him as the eccentric old mountain man that he was, up in New Hampshire talking to the bears and fishing and feeding the wild turkeys that used his driveway as their daily route.

Seveen, sorry to be blunt, but are they really suggesting chemo before hospice??
If they're talking hospice already she may want to skip the chemo.

(((Seveen))) I'm sorry to hear about your mom. My suggestion is to have your son make a card for her, with all his favorite memories. It will be good for him to remind him of all the good things, and perhaps allow your mom to let go a little because she will realize that she is leaving something positive behind.

well i talked with my mom last night and she told me not to come - that there is nothing i can do - and she wants me to work and get back on track - at least talking with her makes me feel better - i talk to her everyday and now that she is talking - things <span style="font-style: italic">seem</span> normal

abu is very literal - so i could have a chat with him about what to say - what not to say - and something would still come out of his mouth - i can hear him saying - grandma why do you have whiskers
