I have never had these calls
Although I did take a collect call from the kids wanting to chat one day
After I loved them up good, I told them, I'd have to tell Daddy if they ever called me collect again!

only had one such phone call from my cousin's friend.

We did check for each other at the time but when he asked for money to pay his light and water bill I said, you must choose...me or the money. He didnt think I was serious.

He asked for the money....I sent it and then called to tell him to lose my number afterwards.

He was like

Next time I saw him, he said, I really blew it didnt I....I said yup, and kept on walking.

other than that no one ever calls me for money or to send them a thing.

Well that is not true. The only cousins that ask for things are the ones that can afford to go to America when the want to but ask me to bring something only because it is conveneint for me to bring instead of them waiting for their next trip to farrin.

One of my GF got ahold of the cell phone (Telephone ting mash up mi life)

She called about 5, and found that he was &quot;engaged&quot; to all of them.

3 of them conspired to have his illegal cable and electricty cut off.

At the very least he was in the dark for a while.

Don't think this only happen to the non-jamaicans...it happens to us too. A friend of mine nephew called asking for money to fix his car, because he was in a bad crash and de car mash up...but of course nothing no do him. After she call her brother to ask bout the accident, only to find out that the boy neva have no car.

I feel to say this bears repeating.

Also, that not every call for help is a scam.

There are ways to tell and you can attach strings.

This is not to say also that many visitors who want to be down very badly don't get taken, because lord knows and especially from reading this thread you see it.

The funniest call I ever got was a win from the lotto. But to get the winning I had to pay the tax. When I said take the tax from the winnings the call 'dropped' until he could try and figure out a work around. I did manage to figure out who it was, and karma did come around.

Fact is, one of my friend's phone got lifted, in Mobay, which is notorious for running scams. In fact, I would lay a bet that the odds are the scammer probably bought me a few drinks at the club in the past lol.

There was a ring that had been broken up recently, LARGE sums of money were being WU'd...I'll have to look for the article.

I too have had one of those &quot;I'm in a jam can you help me&quot; calls from Jamaica. I hate it. I wish people in Jamaica could even fathom what we have to go through here to be able to afford the things we can. And the things we can't too.

Wow that Minnesota scam article is crazy. Do the people think the scammers are seriously gonna come up there and kill them? cuz I would be like &quot;come on then&quot; or tell them to send me a ticket and I'll come down - it will be more convenient....
