OMG my poor friend in EauClaire...she got up at 3 this morning to shovel and snow blow her way out to get to work on time. In 5 years she has not missed a day nor been late. Well, this morning she got to the road to her work and the highway was closed so she had to turn around and go home, after all that!

My snowblowing is finished for now, I'll go another round or three before dark! I think a nice hot bubble bath is in order!

A 22-year-old woman from Rogers died Tuesday night after her car rolled over and plunged into an icy creek in Maple Grove, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

According to the patrol, Carrie A. Lorman was driving west on Interstate 94 near Dunkirk Lane about 9:40 p.m. when she hit her brakes to avoid a stalled vehicle.

She swerved on the icy road and her car slid down an embankment, through a chain link fence and into a creek.

The overturned car was in the water for about 25 minutes, initially leaving Lorman in critical condition, the patrol reported.

yes, it is very terrible out there! I'm glad I didn't go to work, there was a pile up on my route, there are loads of accidents all over Mn and Wi and I imagine everywhere else. I was watching KSTP weather last night and on the 10 o clock there was already hundreds of accidents. I'm so glad I'm not expected to be anywhere at all costs anymore and gone are the days I am expected to risk life and limb for a days wage!

I'm on to shrink wrapping my inside windows now. I just built a new cat door for Tango and now with the outside plastic wrap job we did on the weekend my furnace running should come down considerable!

<span style="font-style: italic">The region’s first winter storm dropped 3.1 inches of snow on Duluth by noon today. That’s about all the Twin Ports will receive.

“We are still bombing the South Shore, but it is starting to tail off here,” National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Steward said shortly after noon. “The winds are going to stay up. That is going to be the main focus for a while.”

Snow is expected to dissipate across most of the region today, but strong north winds will blow the snow around, causing poor visibility and slippery roads.

Police officers and state patrol troopers were busy handling accidents in and around Duluth this morning.

“It’s slick out here,” Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Mark Baker said via cell phone from an accident scene on Piedmont above I-35. “There’s a lot of crashes, slippery roads. Slow down, give yourself plenty of space.”

Because winds never materialized out of the northeast to spur lake-enhancement, and because the snowfall center of the storm tracked farther east than expected, Northeastern Minnesota fell short of what had been forecast Tuesday.

But early the entire state of Wisconsin has been buried in snow, especially areas of the South Shore snowbelt, where more than a foot fell overnight.

The highest reports came from near Washburn and Bayfield where 15-17 inches had fallen and it was still snowing hard this morning.

“There was very heavy snow in Wisconsin just east of Superior. <span style="font-weight: bold">There’s a report of 13 inches in South Range and heavy snow all the way across through Ashland along the South Shore,</span>” NWS meteorologist Tom Lonka said.

People near Lake Superior along the North Shore, in Duluth and down into Carlton County can expect to see north winds of 25 to 35 mph today, with gusts to 45 mph near the lake. The winds will cause blowing and drifting snow and local whiteout conditions. Driving will be hazardous today and this evening.

Cold Arctic air will spread across the region as the storm departs, the NWS said. Wind chills will drop as low as the 20s and 30s below zero tonight and Thursday morning.</span>

Well Truro got snow lass night not nearly enough but me still went into the backyard go roll round in my winter gear. That is a tradition with me an the first snow hoping we get some more that me can invade the little hill where the kids dem go to tobagonin (sp)and slide down that hill with them

It's good for the economy (tourism) in Taos here. Took this yesterday.

Awww Schultz, we drive in it fine for the most part. It's when the snow is falling and people drive like eeediots that things happen. They go too fast and end up not being able to stop or control their car. That is the scary part of going out in a storm and why I drive a big cyar. I used to drive taxi cab in Duluth which is a mile high hill and 22 miles long. Challenging and fun it was, and only once someone plowed into me...and boy they hit me hard. I got rear ended while stopped waiting to take a left turn. I like my car a whole lot so I don't go out in that weather anymore otherwise it can be fun! We used to go out snow storm cruising all the time, lol.

My yard last night after 19 inches...

i shivered looking at the weather map this morning and all of you in the cold tundra

yesterday was 81 degrees today will be a high of 59

if i lived up north i know i'd be in hibernation mode right now

where we live it is currently 2 degrees-8degrees so that would be:34-46 degrees on the other scale!I alway get them mixed up

It looks cold cause it is, but that no mean you have to get cold to go out there! I'm donning my layers as I speak, lol. I'll go out and snow removal will prolly find me overdressed and too warm and it's -4F degrees with a windchill of about 30 below.

This here storm started at noon Tuesday until Wednesday night. Was fun. They closed up most of Wisconsin yesterday, every state office and all the schools. Unexpected days off are the best kind!
