If you were going to spend a week in Jamaica solo on a tight budget where would you stay? (besides TB)

Re: week on a shoestring
i'm seeing interesting things on other sites about a little Rasta yard in Belmont. I hear they have some of the cheapest rates around. It looks basic but clean and comfy.

i have visited brian's yard on a number of occasions on those occasions i have had opportunity to talk to guests in the yard
brian's guests come from all over europe, north america, you just never know who you may run into
i have always only heard wonderful things about brian and his family from his guests, nothing that i didn't already know,
i have had friends stay in the yard and they were most happy and satisfied and felt safe at all times
you will find the website a pretty good representation of what you may find there, only maybe just a bit fresher in my eyes
the yard is great, so green and lush, all kinds of vegetation growing everywhere
brian is a real rastaman and he and his family live a rasta life, really truly a great cultural experience for everyone, rasta have so much to teach the rest of the world....
i feel confident in saying that you would have a great stay should you choose nature roots cottage
one love

Re: week on a shoestring
There are inexpensive places for rent all over the island. The most basic I have heard of are the camping grounds outside of Negril. But I am sure JD isn't interested in that.7/5th of all people do not understand fractions.

You are very right. I am no camper.

Thanks. I prefer not to go AI.

If my friend had not backed out I would be going to Jah B's. I don't think I would be comfortable going to Negril solo.

Interesting thread.
Would you say it has gotten worse with the bad economy?

Re: week on a shoestring
I think it is a bit difficult to give advice about traveling solo - who besides you knows how you roll?
That thread over in N.com chatting about who gets hit on and who doesn't ~
I don't think things are any worse around Negril ...
Do you plan to hit all the night clubs and drink and carry on loosie goosie?? if so - then trouble is likely what you might attract.
Jah B's is quaint and from what I hear, safe enough. Thanks to Seveen for introducing me to their restaurant offerings!!
I would take a stay there for sure if I needed a place solo and on a tight budget.
You can get around easy enough to places for food and whatnot.
would you spend most time just around the beach, or take adventures and day trips out and about the countryside and use Negril as your sleeping home base?

I would probably spend most of my time on the beach. My budget may be too tight for too many day trips.

Re: week on a shoestring
JD, I travel to JA by myself a couple weeks ago. I spent a few days in MoBay, few days in TB and back to MoBay. I had a great time. At first I was bored to death in TB...that area is for lovers. But after a couple of days I hung out with a guy traveling alone from Canada in TB. We shared a tour to YS falls. There was a mother/daughter staying at Button Bay Beach and we did the safari, pelican bar. let me know if you need a spot in MoBay to stay.
