So I got a chance to report on the 2011 Sumfest with special emphasis on covering the festival's honoring of Beres...having shared tour space in the past with the musical giant, this was a quickly decided upon trip

Had a credit from a WestJet US trip I didn't take so no brainer on how it could be n should be used...drawback was that the carrier has no first ,bizniz r exec class ,which, on a one leg is bearable , but on a change of plane n some serious flying time, economy sucks

But Beres' performances r indeed ' moments in time' so two overweight suitcases later I am up in the air, n then running touchdown thru MoBay's vastly improved Immigration n Customs...was quicker this time on mi own steam than when I was 'officially' met last September in Kgn

Ramp way should provide skateboards cause dat is some serious hoofing from plane to Immigration booths..but hey,plane was mostly yaadies..of course my row partners were not, but were intelligent, travelled n definitely not wannabes ...

After a tortuous total travel/layover time of 8 hrs the only other excruciating thing I endured was that mento band in the airport... I really believe these musicians r as fed up playing mento as I am hearing it played so drainingly...

Immigration was fun with the usual which passport to use game.. Young lady was pleasant n kept up with our banter. Big ups to her......

customs was equally pleasant n generous , accepting the Empress' assertion that nothing of import was in the two suitcases, and really was the usual...

Red caps were complimentary wideout being fakingly effusive.. Chose the tallest one, walked outside n I was bakayaad..

I go thru the' usual is she r isn't she' which is quickly decided by a ' welcome home Empress' to which I reply 'blessed'. ...with that there is no need for the teet cleaning whistles etc... But the 'love ur locs' n 'nice Empress' come from males n females ....yeah man yaadies know a fellow yaadie n still remain pleased dat I have flowing locs

Mobay is dingy ...something cheap about the place... Am sure hotel properties r kept up for the most part , but the ' never really kept up vegetation, the fading paint n iffy roadway' leave a lot to be desired for a city that has been into tourism longer than the island has been Independent ..I hesitated at saying 'enjoyed Independence'

Driving remains chaotic but it gives me a chance to learn the new avoidance tactics.. Drive a yaad n u can drive any weh abrawd...

Flying in , I was saddened by the murky colour of a once beautifully variegated-hue water. ...gone was the deep teal blue with the turquoise hues closer to th shore... Just dingy blue ... Oh to have back the pristine shoreline we once enjoyed..... There is body of water that is trapped n is visible wen one starts climbing up out of Mobay.. Water is created by spill off n is close to the sea n is clearly polluting the sea but i guess is too out of sight to be seen as the problem it is.......

But Jamaica , Mobay side evokes memories of stage shows of the past n a tourism that was visitor AND resident friendly....so I am off on an epic cross country drive on a road I am sure no government minister r tour bus driver has undertaken....Middle Quarters n New Market roads r not for the feint of heart but u see some beautifully wild land that begs for agricultural use.... Acres upon acres of an obviously abandoned citrus grove, some trees still bearing to no use, n others being slowly choked by encroaching parasitic weeds.

In one grove,the paradox that is Jamaica is clearly depicted.

This is so refreshingly wonderful! I can visualize every word. I saw Beres in the magical setting that was Air Jamaica Jazz &amp; Blues Festival some years back and I will never forget it.
