It's not surprising that Indians are running 'Bob's shop' atall! The Indians and Chinese have become the champions in corrupt practices and bribery overseas. The same thing applies here - it's pretty well global, I guess.
It looks like the tourist industry has reverted to how it was 40 years ago. Back then I went to JA for the first time and stayed at a smallish hotel in Runaway Bay owned by an elderly Englishman who abused hi staff and treated them miserably. He was finally defeated by the people who ran the local telephone switchboards
There was no internet in those days - and they just blocked all his calls from overseas, thereby starving his business When I went back there next time without a booking and hoping the place was better, Lo! and behold....it was under new management and the old rogue was gone. He used to address his staff as 'Boy' and a VERY NICE 26-year-old lady who was his best cook died at that age......I was very suspicious about why.

u see more couples grocery shopping ...not ongle di woman can mek dem price decisions it would seem
sad to see people wid dis big shopping cart n each item is clearly thought over before being placed in said cart
an again i think that chain is cheap looking wid how it throws everyting togedda in di big space...an u know dem ongle paying minimum wage di number of bodies dem have standing about....an wat a challenge....u pay, den dem tek u card an id to a cage etc etc...n people still look at u if u DL is not from one of the States yaadies use to...

mi getting a bootie to be able to walk about
u know dem Star Trek boots....
i have soo many thoughts about Ja dat i want to share ...i really took the opportunity to talk wid people,,,i do that anyhow but this trip i was searching for the truth of how peeps feel...all were forthcoming...across the board...
i am not a picture taker so u not going to get the food pictures etc...some of the videos u mite not get especially di one wid me being veddy open in reactions...case in point, i stopped an was tekking pictures of the windmills an all of a sudden dis man comes out of the bush and surprises the heck out of me....he was on his way home after a day at his land ....just materialised out of the high grass...of course we had to siddung an chat...tings like dat were the best pawts of the trip...
chatting to a civil servant whose job was as he put it, fixing the roads in a certain parish...honest chat re state of the state....
as i have said i am particularly moved by the state of the mentally challenged in Ja...i took some people at face value and left funds for them to take care of a couple of peeps who hung out at their places of bizniz...u have to take leaps of faith everyday n for this i took dem...noone chooses to walk about ,dirty, hungry etc...i didnt know them r the people behind the counters of the places but i took hope that they would do as they promised....wen i go bak next month, this is one area i really want to continue to look into ...not lookin to govt r even churches..juss people in di communities who show concern ..one on one...
spoke at length with a Jamaica white who continues to fight his way wid his farming...his son is trying to stay the course wid the farming but has other ideas...Jamaica still has some kids who look beyond the bling etc...
tings like dis ...dont know how much is really a trip report ...just my view as a yaadie trying to get odda yaadies to open up about the reality that is daily life in Ja as faced by a cross section of yaadies...the ups , downs etcComment

Sis e, last time I was in Jamaica the farmers had a BIG problem with "praedial larceny" as they called it. This was really discouraging them a lot and plenty said they were ready to 'throw in the towel'.

That's exactly what I used to do when I used to travel. This is why I felt you were taking all of us along with you. Only a compassionate person would make a priority of getting a real feel of the place and caring enough to leave small sinting for the ones that pull on the heartstrings, but only a true 'wordsmith' (as Bra Elder says) would be able to tell the tale in such a convincing 'stream of consciousness'

Whatever pics and/or videos you finally post for us, they can't possibly be more expressive than what you've already written for us.
We hope you're fully mobile sooner than soon, but meanwhile, please don't overdo it, OK?!

you know this is so bad for business.........had several issues where one person could operate the machine and was not there so I was told to come back; or the everlasting wait when your card is taken to the cage or upstairs for management approval even with your DL.......at one point I was ask to show another form of identification cause like you say the person did not recognise the state it was issued in.Comment
