I went to see Yellowman…I mean King Yellowman and Gregory Isaacs. I’m not a fan of either one of them so I shouldn’t have gone, but it was Monday night, my sistafriends were gone and my driver friends were….driving. Plus I suddenly realized I have been watching the idiot show hell date for almost 2 hours! I don’t even watch that when I’m home. I knew I had to get out of that room. So I showered, dressed comfortably only revealing a peek of cleavage and was on my way. Soon I found myself standing at the little wood booth waiting for the tiny piece of paper in exchange for my 800JA to see two performers whom I am not a fan of.

I hand over my ticket, get my clearance to enter then head straight upstairs to my spot pon the balcony. It wasn’t hard to find, my spot pon the balcony, cuz no one else was up there. Am I too early??? Is this the wrong night??? Has the show been cancelled? I drag a chair to the edge to sit and wait.

Time for a drink.

Floating bar folks are platinum. I didn’t know they had them here until tonight, so glad they do. Someone from the bar comes to take my order. A very handsome, stocky, chunk of thick melt in your mou…..ooops. um um I order a red stripe and he speeds away. I sat patiently waiting for my first thirst quencher of the evening.

Hey Schultz [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70459-hugs.gif[/img], yeah, it way down the west end and I loved it. Can’t say which is my favorite one because of the differences in the food specialties. But for casual meals, it’s still Sweetspice and for the fancy eatery, I would say the Rockhouse.

The opening performers, about four, were ok. Kept me awake, even moved me to stand and shake a couple of times. LOL, there’s this 50 something spectator who dashed up on stage and attached her self to each male singer for long periods of time. They couldn’t shake her off and her grip around their torso was obviously distracting their singing. To make matters worse, she would do this off tempo bump thing against their hip. I know it drove them nuts! Cracked me up just watching it.

The selector playing in between performances is great. By this hour, the crowd has swelled. Surprisingly even with the added rum, my red stripe is still cool. I shifted to regain comfort in the hard wooden chair, staring at the folks trudging in the sand below and enjoying the wonderful night breeze. Being sooooo grateful that there IS a night breeze. Suddenly I think….maybe I should leave now.

The announcement is made with a roar King Yellowman… King Yellowman… King Yellowman… King Yellowman is here. The crowd moves closer to the front. Firing across the stage like a steel ball shot from a cannon appears King Yellowman. More than ready to do what he came here to do. To do what he LOVES to do.

I remember someone from the board saying the he’s not good anymore. I saw him three visits ago because, well, support, encouragement and curiosity. Regarding that show, his overall performance was commendable…. somewhat entertaining. Not like i heard he used to be. Unfortunately, his talent for what he loves to do has diminished due to his physical limitations.

He was nonstop moving all over the elevated platform from the start. The oversized brim on his baseball cap hid his face as he lifted and lowered the corded microphone to his lips.

“Can I get you another stripe?”
I turn to my left…it’s the bar runner…how juicy sweet of him to wedge through this crowd to make sure I don’t perish from thirst tonight. “No thanks, I’m not finished with this one.”
“Let me know when you ready fe annoda drink.”
“Thanks, I will.”
I take a close look at the bottle and it’s almost empty. CHA! I quick look back but he’s gone.

His voice is straining to keep up with the energy that drives his body. The mike cord is slithering like a mad snake across the stage. Watching him soar, twirling and spinning
from one side of the stage to the other was making me dizzy.

Out of no where, someone from the audience reaches up and grabs the mike by the cord and rips it from his hand. The guy uses it to scream about 7 seconds of insults directly at him then calmly hands Yellowman the device and walks off. Yellowman is briefly, just briefly stunned. He turns, facing backstage, holding both arms wide open in a gesture of disbelief. I would imaging, asking How can this happen???? He shakes his head, listens to the music which never stopped, then jumped back in singing like nothing happened.

“Get me to the church on time……….”

“No, I want seltzer water.”
“Seltzer?”
“Yes…club soda….”
“I knoa…I knoa…me soon come back.”

I watch the mass move about below and play with my camera while I wait.
