Again, unfortunately, I don't think you can tell from the pix - but there is so much dirt, and SWEAT, ingrained in the seats - in the leather, I don't think it possible to remove it.

There's no CD player and the radio is broken.

That's not a typo - it's twenty thousand US dollars for a 5 year old car.

It's not the price that surprised me really tho.

It's the condition of the cars that cracked me up.

It looks like the original owner just gets out of the car and they just right away push it onto the boat to ship it to JA.

They don't even wipe it off with a handkerchief!

If you have <span style="color: #006600">US $22,860.00</span> / <span style="color: #FF0000">JA $1,650,000 </span>lying around, you can get this 2003 Honda Odyssey.

Both radio and CD player work but 3 times as dirty inside and out, as the Nissan.

Anyway - learned this day, this is routine - it's just how it's done - no big deal.

Once the car reaches the dealer in JA, they work it and clean it as much as possible from top to bottom.

Salesman then came over and tried to finagle hubby into buying the Honda. They didn't want me taking anymore pix.

Sales lady hustles me into office to get my info and to try & get me on board and to finance the car thru them (Cosmos) and not the bank - at the rate of 23%!!!! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70379-moneyeyes.gif[/img] not a typo - that's TWENTY THREE PERCENT!

Thru out the trip we looked at 2 more dealers but in the end, it seems, hubby came to his senses [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70384-praying.gif[/img] <span style="color: #CC0000">(tank yuh merciful jeezass faddah)</span> and let go of this sick scheme. No buying of another car. Hell it’s not like we’ve got $20k lying around ANYWAY and if I did – I sure as hell aint usin’ it to buy a 5 year old car!! And if I didn't have it - I surely ain't going into debt at double digit interest for some likkle piecea cyaar!!

Great report Yuri....beautiful sunset pic...cannot believe the prices on the cars!!...guess my '98 Toyota corolla wagon was a steal @ $6,000...easy to get parts for & just keeps on going!

More so than any other time, I kept seeing an HUGE amount of cars for sale. Every other car you'd pass on the road or see parked, had one of those little red & white <span style="color: #FF0000">"FOR SALE" </span>signs on it. <span style="color: #000066">(I'm meaning regular/private sellers of course, not dealers)</span>

Hubby said he noticed it too and thinks people are just selling to upgrade to a better car.

Beg to differ - my theory is that the vice is tightening more & more and people just cannot afford to run & maintain a vehicle.

I keep promising to finish this dang thing - there's not too too much more left actually - but everything keeps getting in the way. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70394-bawlout.gif[/img]

Was supposed to finish Friday gone but all afternoon I'm on the phone to JA.

I paid my Mom's property taxes at the Port Maria tax office last month.

Friday, I call the office directly to see what they could do for me. Situation's not that bad because they can give me a certificate of payment. I ask if I can pay to have them mail or Fed Ex to me - no. After transferring me around to about 50 people, I finally get the head of the office ... only to find out ...

Dem is not permitted to fax ovah seas.

Both of them were, where they had been used as a taxi for a hotel.

Yuri, there were a couple of articles on this website about purchasing & importing vehicles a yaad. Interesting stuff - eye opening! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img]

The Gleaner Classifieds also have vehicles for sale and I'm thinking that if you go closer to Kingston you may find prices slightly lower. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img] closer to the source?

As for private sales? I know a couple of friends who have recently sold their vehicles because they couldn't keep up with the costs of fuel & maintenance as well as insurance.
When I first heard the cost of purchasing a used vehicle in Jamaica I was amazed!!

I haffi agree with QK ... not much good can come from it ... I can not imagine that much money could be made - with the prices things are today - to run, maintain, and be able to buy more cars from that running ...

it has been done with my family - one provided the car, but it has been run HARD HARD and not maintained to standard ~ and trouble follows!!!

I have been pricing cars for a couple years now ... LORD JEZUS!!! we need a pick up ... but - how can that ever happen???
