So we browse through the market and pick up a few trinkets here and there - but we are rapidly learning first hand what we read on Trip Advisor... THIS PLACE IS EXPENSIVE!!!!!

The excahnge rate is close to ours in Jamaica... approximately $70 CF to $1 US... but things are waaaaaaay more expensive.

Anway not to be deterred we set off for the Pearl Shops... hoping to find a nice bargain

I tried on a set of Pearls that would set me back a nice $20,000 or so... just so I could say I did... then settled on a few things more within my grasp... plus gifts for MIL and couple others.

awwwwww Danna thank you babes... I think I have to agree with your co-worker - Moorea is breathtaking... wait till i post those pics... I took over 700 pics and more than half are just pics of the landscape and teh water and teh scenery... every morning I stepped outside - the beauty took my breath away!

Pearls and trinkets secured we determined that now was a good time to sample some local food and get the flavor... well firstly mister man decided that he HAD to find the local brewery and secure some local rum... apparently local transport is not the only thing Jamicans have in common with the Polynesians - directions here are somewhat similar to Jamaican directions...

let me just say that we circled the chruch... TWICE and although we passe a lot of picnickers sitting around the periphery of the church... AAAALLLLLLL NOW we still doan fine the rum place \o/

so we did what all enterprising tourists would do... we gave up and went to get something to eat instead. Little did we know that we were in for the first shock of the trip...

We found a place that looked promising... no tourists in sight, lots of locals buying food and basically just lounging around. A quick glance at the menu seemed to promise a variety of dishes. We were waved airily to a table by a chinese looking gentleman and were eventually noticed by the barefooted, gregarious (read suga in his step ) waiter.

After some heated consultation with him (half of which is still a mystery to me today since he spoke not a lick of emglish ) we decide upon our dishes... Beef for me and fish for mister man...





so - it looks kinda like a typical Chinese lunch here right??? little strings of beef cut up with onions and green pepper... usually about $5.99 for the lunch special and $9.99 if you order from the dinner menu...
we ate - the food was tolerable at best - but hey anyone can have an off day right???
We decide to head back to the hotel and call for the bill... well it came to approx $4500 CF (which is the local currency)... some quick calculations at 70 to 1 - I almost fell over... sixty odd dollars - talk about sticker shock.
We had read to be prpepared for high prices but we thought local place - can;t be that bad right??? WRONG!!!!!

Armed with this new knowledge we kinda had to do a mental readjustment...
We grabbed a taxi and headed back to the hotel.
