some pics of Papeete City - not e how clean the roads are... most people drive small french cars - but you do see the odd Japanese or German import here and there - btu for the most part.. smaller french cars rule - and they are all stick shift.
I found the marriage of Nissan and Renault kinda odd... maybe it was just a dealership...

Ok so back at the hotel - neither one of us feel like getting sandy so after a quick trip to the room to offload stuff we decide to head to the bar for a few afternoon cocktails
The bartender is very friendly and has obviously watched the movie "cocktails" one time too many... he was flipping, and mixing and exchanging friendly banter - quite gregarious - I think it was this more than anything else that lulled us into a false sense of security...
I ordered a Grey goose and Cranberry – he ordered Rum and fruit punch and we continued to watch the antics of the bartender… I halfheartedly snapped a few pics of the pool and surrounding scenery but I was feeling GREAT and didn’t want to be disturbed by the camera…
The day was beautiful, I was with my honey, and I had no worries, not a care in the world – Life was good!
We had early dinner plans for that evening so we decide to head back to the room and get ourselves together… so now comes bill time…
$55 US for 2 drinks - THAT’S IT!!!! My little buzz disappeared immediately… I was like well dam – it’s gonna be a looong trip without alcohol \o/

Anyway... so we head back to the room to shower and get dressed for dinner that evening. Hubby had made reservations before we left the US at a restaurant called "The Belvedere" - they were sending a van to pick us up at 4:30 PM...
We thought it was odd that the pick up was so early and had called them - btu they said that we DEFINITELY wanted to be there to catch the sunset - so we said ok..
The van arrives promtly at 4:30 and we are off... we go to a nearby hotel and pick up another couple and then we make our way into the town and two ladies get on as well (but they didn;t look like patrons)
So we drive and drive... then we begin to climb and climb and climb some more - The air begins to get fresh and crisp and I can almost feel a "Mandeville" Breeze coming off the trees...
Just when I thought we coudn't possibly go any further our driver makes a sharp left turn onto a small, and by small I mean TINY road and proceeds to start climbing again - by this time I am and Mr. Jazz and I are exchanging looks that say - "what the heck??" I am used to small roads in Jamaica but this road is a ONE VEHICLE ONLY Road...
We pass a few people jogging and walking along the road and we are wondering Where on eartth they are going... we are still climbing and lo and behold here comes a couple of police bikes and a police van...
Well the driver apparently didn;t give the bike enough spcae and he went careening over the edge of the road...
(Did I mention that the left side of the road was like a deep deep Precipice??? if I didn't well it is )
so over he and the bike went and it was only a large tree root that stopped the fall... they all went out and pulled the bike back up, patted each other on the back and went their merry way
