Thank you so much for the dialog and pics of Panama. I was there for the first time in May and only for a day, so this really helps fill in the blanks. And I especially enjoyed the pic of you and your daughter. You don't change, girl. Still look the same as when I met you, what was it? 2 or 3 years?

They are building a new lock that will accomodate cruise ships, so it is much wider than the other locks. I believe expected completion date to be in 2013.

Jimmy Carter gave back the Panama Canal, even after the US put so much money into building it. And I believe the US gets nothing from the locks fees. The least a ship pays is around $65,000 to go through, but of course, saves an enormous amount of time and fuel. Some of them go through with 6 inches to spare on each side. Amazing how they can navigate them through the locks.
