Mini-Minneapolis

So a girlfriend and I decided to take a two day trip to Minni/St. Paul to do the big mall and downtown Nicolette.


Here is my assessment of Minneapolis...love it love it love it.

These were the NICEST people I have met anywhere in America, and I will have to do an entire segment on my hotel...Country Inns and Suites, directly across the street from the Mall of America.

This hotel is not a 5 star, but I got 10 star treatment from the staff.

Before we even arrive GF and I called the hotel with several questions. Amber at the hotel was so kind and patient to answer each one with a smile I could feel through the phone.

When we arrived the staff (Brittany) was most accommodating and gave us a large choice of rooms. Everyone greeted you with a genuine smile, and the atmosphere at this place is just GREAT.

After we checked in, we asked Pierre at the front desk for some directions and dining advice. Upon learning that we were headed to the mall, Pierre supplied us with coupons for a free appetizer at Bubba Gumps Shrimp place.

So first impressions of the mall is that it is a HUGE, and interesting place to take kids. There is an entire amusement park inside, and I think I heard mention of an aquarium underneath.

This is a place you can get married in the mall...hey Larry...hint,,,,,hint

SO we hit the mall for a few hours and pick up a few things,

Now I want to show you how you can have beautiful nails (then he demonstrates, and yeah the product is good. We nogitiate a price and I buy it)

So are you two a couple?

No this is my friend, she has a man and so do I.

Oh too bad, you'd make a nice couple.

Nice shoes by the way.


I mean this guy was a TRIP.


Anyway proceeding on down the mall we just shop and shop, and then go to the hotel for a rest.

We didn't go anywhere that night, we hit the sack. I go to get ice and the maintance man says. I'll get that for you...what room are you in?

You go on back to your room I will bring it to your door.

I lost .25 in the drink machine, and he reaches in his pocket, and says "Here I will give you your quarter back."


These people are so nice it is unbelievable.

The next day we hit the mall for a few hours and then head downtown to Nicolette street for lunch and more shopping.

We are on the train and it is a Twins game today. Younger people let older people have their seats, and complete strangers just talk to us. They want to know how we are and give us advice, directions. These have to be the nicest people I have met in light years.

It's a picture perfect day and the Minneaplolis folks know how to tell the gods they appreciate it. I think the whole town turned out to sun worship and soak it up.

I must mention that the service at TGI Friday, Chevys,Zylos, and Crave was par excellance. I wish I could pick up every server in Memphis and send them there for lessons....hell even the McDonalds at the airport. These folks are special I tell you...just WONDERFUL people.

So the GF....buys a really big purchase which I will not elaborate on here for privacy reasons.... and we decide it is best to head back before we do more damage.

So I see this statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her hat in the air and can't make the connection. So we ask our FINE A bartender at Crave what it is and he reminds me that fictional Mary, Lou and company worked in Minneapolis and the series was shot there.
