We wandered along Duval until it was time to meet some friends for Happy Hour at the Conch Republic Seafood Company...2-4-1 drinks, and possibly the world's most incredible shrimp, the Royal Red, a deep water shrimp that tastes almost like lobster

now believe me, we really meant to take pictures, but by the time we licked the last of the drawn butter off our fingers, this is all that was left

after Happy Hour, we giggled our way back to the Schooner to check out the.....the....well, I don't remember the name of the band, but they rocked some nice blues.....

I was just sitting here enjoying the ride and then OMG that is the Deb Callahan Band I'm 99% positive!

on our way home, we happened across a Cuban Day parade....and, no kidding, the whole thing came and went in about 10 minutes ...but it was a great 10 minutes; people dancin' in the street, bikes revvin', horns blowin', music <span style="font-weight: bold">thumpin'</span> ....

Saturday morning, I spotted this guy admiring the sunrise....



he was there until we left for breakfast, again no sooner than noon ....give thanks, Harpoon Harry's serves a good, cheap breakfast up until 3PM ....

can't start the day without one of these....this is a Bloody Harry; a spicier version of the Bloody Mary....




afterwards, we headed towards Duval to meet some friends at the Flying Monkey for early afternoon cocktails (trust me, this crew drinks like the Ja.com crowd )......

let's go for another walk....

Thanks Dave, for that report!

I know a guy who lives in Key West, so it's nice to have a look
at his part of the world (apart from an airplane window on route to Cuba).

Hemingway's house looks fabulous! I went to his locals in Havana, the Floridita (home of the daiquiri)and Bodequita del Medio (Mojito), and the hotel he stayed in, Ambos Mundos (great roof terrace bar!). The room he always stayed in is now a little museum.

What's the story behind that Cuban parade?

I love that lavender house too! I have some walls painted a very light lavender in my house..

Marielle, here's more info about the Cuban Fest ...the parade was actually the &quot;Coast to Coast Conga Line&quot;...it started on the Atlantic Ocean end of Duval St and ended at the Gulf of Mexico end.....

OK, so after early cocktails, we decided to go back and chill at the hotel before the sunset cocktail hour(s)

Now Key West isn't known for it's beaches, but the Hyatt has some little patches of sand near the water, and if you squint your eyes just so, and the light is right, it'll still never be a beach but it served it's purpose....

The Sunset Pier at the Ocean Key Resort....oddly enough, it's a great place to watch the sun set.....

We eventually wandered back to the hotel....you'd be surprised how exhausting it can be to sit in the sun and drink all day ....Pooh dropped me there (she actually just pointed me toward the lobby, gave me a shove and let Newton's First Law of Motion take over ) and went back to the Conch Farm to get some dinner...salad and another pound of Royal Reds! this time we got a picture before they were devoured.....
