Interesting re the veterans' perspective. I would have thought they would have been consulted when the project was commissioned, but I guess not. Last word before leaving the district...

Regardless of any criticism, the preservation and active re-use of the historic buildings has been widely praised. The Distillery District is a National historic site, and has been designated for protection under the Ontario Heritage Act since 1976. It was listed by National Geographic magazine as a "top pick" in Canada for travellers. The redevelopment of surrounding vacant lands is expected to accelerate the district's transformation from an abandoned industrial site into one of Toronto's most unique neighbourhoods."

too bad you didn't go on the other side of the Village by the Grange building, on mcaul st., CEW, and take a picture of the famous "crayon box" - the new addition to the Ontario College of Art and design. it's tissue box shaped and stands on massive stilts that looks like crayons. i hate to walk past it cause it feels as if the box is going to fall on me. planning issues around land apparently made the college build the building up in the air.

On the evening of this walk, there was a Buskers' "festival" on Front between Church & Jarvis. A busker is a person who entertains people for money in public places (as by singing or dancing). A couple of ladies from Australia put on a pretty good display of hula-hoops, and below are some of the action captured.

Does anyone remember doing anything like that with their hula-hoop? Yeah, as a kid I used to hoop-it-up too, but nothing like what these girls did, and certainly not with that much hoops!
