My grandparents had a two-seater. Dem was very stoosh and the envy of the districk

we had a two seater made from cedar!!!!

But they were just like the tiolet image they showed in Sochi, communal.....at the local primary school there was a 4 seater communal for boys
and a 4 seater for girls.....

u know i recall when the ministry of education was being pushed to ensure that all schools had a pit latrine..... i just wonder how sustainable the flush tiolets are.... But how does a pit latrine impact a students self esteem ????

An important initiative by the education ministry should not go unnoticed.
in 58 primary and all-age schools pit latrines were closed and replaced with modern toilets. More than a 100 other schools still have pit latrines, for whose replacement the ministry is working with Food for the Poor. Sixty of these should be completed during the next fiscal year.
While we appreciate the shortage of resources, we feel that all stops must be pulled to accelerate the project.
The shift, we expect, will contribute to enhancing the learning environment of these schools and self-esteem of their students.

I don't see why a pit toilet has anything to do with lowering self esteem as opposed to a porcelain water flush toilet in a school... Having a toilet is a serious bizness...

as i said i remember when there were schools and clincs without tiolets..and when children were taught in schools if u have a dump outside dig a hole and bury the waste.if u read the story of the exodus in the bible there is a description of the children of isreal doing this.........i also recall my grandfather and other elders telling me that modern society was goen to hell as whenthey was a boy when u had a dump ah bush u buried it, and not do it in the middle of a path and leave it exposed ..... (since every assertion i make is doubted can those in doubt please confirm with their cousin who is proven expert on s***te)

see i can remember when we country people would laugh at kingstonians for not understanding the protocols for having squat....

Maybe a diefentiator to identify Jamaicans would be true Jamaicans have had a dump ah bush.....

in fact from an environmental perspective a pit toilet is a better option that a flush toilet in the tropics...and it is a much more sustainable option ....

This is one of those cases where we have a working sustainable locally produced solution to have it replaced by a costlier imported one..because it is yanki based...

in my day we only used school latrine if absolutely necessary. i don't know how we did it, but all our #2s were done at home, and yes, we had a communal one as well, one big opening and one lickle opening for the pickney. when our family fortunes improved, we filled in the old tilit and built a new one with concrete floor, and an attached bath house. the new one was a bit closer to the house, which mitigated a bit the terror when you had to go #2 in the dark dark night.

i'd be curious to know if country kids today would do more of their #2s at school because the toilet flush. So much taboo about pooping in Jamaica, plus the notion of kids and the mess they can make trying not to put their butts on porcelain that someone else's butt touched, and the inevitable mess that occurs. maybe pit latrines are the way to go for practical reasons.

at the house i grew up, an indoor bathroom with flush toilet and shower was finally installed in the early 90s, for the convenience of my cousin who was dying of cancer.

As for taking the word of cousins over your word...mi noh know you and blood is thicker than water. I would take the word of YOUR cousin over yours any day as I know her. Not sure why that is sticking in your craw but mi noh bizniz. To me, you are just an avatar in a video game.

at home we had an ancient one made from cut stone and lime concrete with wattle and daub coating on the inside... no lie it had a mahogany floor, that had cedar seats.... it had covers over the holes....

My primary education was very short honestly grade 1 and two weeks in grade 2 at one school and then three terms grade 7 at another .... toilets at the first was communal pit tiolets 4 seats for boys four seats for girls there was no janitor, wasp nest over the door and in the corner of the tiolet.. ratbat in the roof, so the alternative was bush, which i preferred. That is why the protocol of burying ur dump was important... and knowing how to identify where had been used was important.... and no where to wash your hand, there was a urinal....having said that the school had glass windows which all were broken...., Now there are skills to clean your hand post and knowledge which is the best bush to wipe ur bottom with....but that is a taino skill, that most Jamaican is to aware of....

now the other memory was if u were having a use of the toilet, houmour was to hit the roof so the wasp would be disturbed and sting you!

The second school had 4 pit tiolet each for boys and girls with cubicles again i prefer the bush....they had running water to wasj your hands in theory, now soap though....and water was not guaranteed ed.....

yes there is a cultural taboo about toilets and bodily functions.. and always there was a lack of public facilities.....

my concern is that a well maintained dunny is sustainable while a flush toilet is not... given the poor state of water resources available to shcools in Jamaica, i doubt that htey can remain sanitary....

a most interesting dunny system was in the out back in autralia near Ulurus there are the Olgas rock formation was where i saw them...... where water is scarce, they have dunnies and encourage you to seperate the liquid from the putty as sewage is made only when they are combined.... ie u micterate seperate to defecation... it actually works as to minimise the smell... post the biznes they ahavve a system to dump dirt on top....

I recall police come lock up a parent because ah dat...
