Speaking of Miss Lou

One of her protegees spoke up here a while back and said that Miss Lou and her students changed the words to some Jamaican folk songs because the original words were too slack. There was one with the original words:

Downtown girls are wearing paper draws
Some a dem noh ave noh draws at all....




Which song was it and what were the words changed to...I wish I had written in down.

NO it wasn't Miss Lou's work that was PC'd. Miss Lou and some of her students PC'd some traditional Jamaican folk songs. Got this straight from one of her protegees who used to be on TV with her. I wish they would put those shows on Youtube for those of us who never had a chance to see them.

An assignment Miss Lou would give her students would be to take a traditional folk song and re-write it so that the new lyrics fit the music like a glove. I specifically remember her protegee saying that.

Miss Lou did is successfully. I have never seen any articles about what the words were before and what the words are that we now use but her protegee gave many examples. I wish that I had written them down. Now that would make an interesting article.

A friend who worked at JBC told me the majority of tapes were reused so this is why we have never seen "Ring Ding" videos for sale.
