Michelle Obama's mother, Marian Robinson, is moving to Washington to help take care of the Obamas' daughters, Malia and Sasha, according to Politico.com.
No reaction from the president-elect. Is there a a mother-in-law apartment in the White House?

The story also says the couple plan to send their daughters to a private school in D.C.








Some sound advice. If Michelle's mother can move in then it's only fair to have his family move in as well.

Is something wrong with you? His mom is dead. This is the perfect solution for them. Her mom fills in when Michelle is gone with Barack, and has been doing this for the last 2 years while he's been campaigning.

Just saying, if he let's one move in he won't hear the end of it from his side of the fam.

'First Granny': Marian Robinson could move into the White House to look after the Obama's two daughters
Barack Obama has become the first American president to appoint a First Granny.
Michelle Obama’s mother has reluctantly agreed to move from Chicago to Washington to take care of her granddaughters as they adjust to their new home at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Marian Robinson, 71, was an indispensable part of the Obama campaign as babysitter for Malia, ten, and seven-year-old Sasha.
The move could signal the first time in living memory that three generations of a family have moved into the White House.
But the fiercely independent Mrs Robinson has suggested she could take a flat nearby because she doesn’t want to ‘intrude.’
Michelle, 44, has insisted that with 132 rooms, there will be no shortage of space.
She said she ‘begged’ her mother to leave her long-time home in Chicago’s tough South Side.
‘The girls are going to need her as part of their sense of stability,’ she told Newsweek magazine.
‘And what is true for my mum is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she is done for.’

I don't care how may rooms are in the White House, when it come to a mother in law living in the same house there can never be enough. I see trouble ahead!

They should get her a nice place which is a very short drive to the White House that she can call her own.

I don't see anything wrong with it. We don't know if this something new!!!

Her mother lived close by before and Michelle is going to need all the help she needs.

yeah it would be better to get a complete stranger who is only interested in the money u r paying rather than the kids to watch your kids

Exactly. That extended link is what is missing in a lot of black families today, due to all sorts of reason.

At least they will have someone who is trustworthy, and God knows that the importance of that just increased by a zillion and 1.

It all comes down to respect and judging from the &quot;behind the scenes&quot; pictures from the election night, it seem as if they (MIL and Obama) get along very well. They couldn't have done a better thing, although it must be a great sacrifice for Michelle's mom to uproot in that way, she must believe it will be well worth it.

Like mothers, all mothers-in-law are not created equally.

I think that MOST TIMES the issue is with the son or daughter who married their child who refuses to accept his/her parent.

or the fact that mothers in close quarters for an extended period of time can drive u crazy sometimes

but like anything else is big picture : good outweighs the minor problems for the most part, esp in a situation like this.
