to me it's the same idea:
you didn't love me the way i want so now i want revenge;
humans are already irrational but throw 'love' in the mix & it becomes even more so...i've seen many times in this culture where people make jokes about 'killing' someone who is their significant other---all the time;
chris rock said you don't really love someone unless you thought about killing them...and nuff people think it's very funny with deep belly laughs

what you described to me was what I veiw as TRUE and UNCONDITIONAL love. The kindof love that cares SO much about the other person's well-being that they are willing to accept that being together isn't the best thing.
but then I ask you this...have you ever LOVED someone that refused to love you back? Have you ever felt what that feeling can do to you? I'm not justifying this young man's actions...he obviously belongs in the looney bin, I'm just saying that Love can drive people crazy, and in the middle of being all mixed up, the hate they have for themselves can be mistaken for the love of another. thats why I say they are the same side of the coin...

I just feel that anything less isnt honest. We are humans, and as humans we are terribly flawed. When I say I love someone there is always an element of insecurity, selfishness or some other not so positive emotion involved.
Lord knows, someone hurt me bad bad a few weeks back and I had thoughts of setting them on fire if I could But when I really thought about it, as much as I may be upset with them, I love them - and I cant even fathom doing anything to hurt them.
If I could do that type of action, I am not motivated by my love for them, I am motivated by my insecurities/possessiveness/<span style="font-weight: bold">fill in the blank emotion that fits.</span>
i agree in principle with what you are saying but I just see the driving factor is not love but some other internal demon.
Plus, I dont feel men who are domestic abusers beat or kill their SO look at their women with any kind of love in their hearts at any point.
