No, he didn't. If he didn't 'soon' the Tribune, well, his office would have spent millions of dollars on an investigation only to have a newspaper report beating him to the punch. He had to come with something. Besides, if this is as you claim, it would bring into question, the impartiality of his office. Fitzgerald is known for his unimpeachable integrity.

It is this question that I find strange. I don't know that Burris will help Blago avoid jail. He most likely won't go to jail; the case against him is rather weak. The most that may happen to him is impeachment and removal from office.

Burris' appointment is one of affirmative action. LBJ felt that he should put a qualified black man on the Supreme Court. Blago is now saying, though not explicitly, that he will put another black person in the US Senate. In both cases, an argument can be made that there are others more qualified to fill those positions. Still, those decisions, and the criteria used to make those decisions, fell within the executive powers of LBJ and Blago, respectively.

If this is so, as you say, then this is most disturbing. Still, I would like to get more information on this issue because it is a serious one. What I know is that there are all kinds of stories popping up since the announcement. Things are not always what the media say it is. What we know is that he wasn't reprimanded by the state legislature, he wasn't cencured, he did not have his law licence revoked, he wasn't the subject of any ethics investigations.

This is the same democratic caucus that thought impeaching Bush was a bad idea that now wants to block Burris. They never saw a war funding bill they didn't like. They caved on wire-tapping. They are a bunch of p-u-s-s-i-e-s.

There is a simple reason why Burris should be seated: the rule of law.

I imagine the head of the Capitol Police is on the phone with their legal counsel discussing how they should deal with Burris when he shows up next week to present his credentials.
