I think the Teacher used the rearranging of the desks to <span style="font-weight: bold">deliberately </span>hit the desk said student was sleeping on. Said Teacher got a beat dung!!

I remember some great teachers....and some bad teachers at my high school (call students names, ever ready with the ruler fi give lick, think the students fail because dem just &quot;dunce&quot; ) maybe that's why i don't totally agree.

Ah, but I didn't say <span style="text-decoration: underline">all</span> teachers back then were better. I've got my horror stories, David's got even more and even worse ones...

But.

Having seen my son go through so many grades in so many schools, listening to his friends, the experiences from my friends regarding their kids &amp; school life etc, I believe that too many teachers today do not care, or they don't care enough.

I found growing up that most teachers that I came in contact with viewed their profession as a calling. Not just a job. Teaching was their life and they treated it accordingly.

I may make quips about abuse (and yes, there were teacher abusing students (including me) back then) but there were teachers who made you care so very much about stuff you initially thought were just so irrelevant (like Geography, I HATED geography!!!!!!!)...

And because they cared, the students for the most part, were <span style="font-style: italic">impelled</span> to just reach up and up... to just get better and better...

</div></div>I still think that the majority of Jamaican teachers have very good intentions, but most lack the social skills required to manage the children without using abusive acts.

We should not expect to lower our incidences of violence in adult population, if it is used as a tool of molding them as children, in the education system.

I agree. But I still think it's unfair to infer that the teacher at KC was physically violent, to the extent even, that it warranted that the students launch an uprising and punch and slap him in his face and neck.

I agree. But I still think it's unfair to infer that the teacher at KC was physically violent, to the extent even, that it warranted that the students launch an uprising and punch and slap him in his face and neck.

I am so lucky my parents believed me,when i complainedaboit anything, and always was truthful to them, since i knew that they would never abuse me even when i was at fault in my actions.

mi no read all wat been written but mi haffi seh dat is a sad day wen being a KC boy mean soo likkle dat dat student behave in dat way...afta all, why is he sleeping and why in the presence of a teacher? wat happen to school pride not to mention juss basic home training....

i read in one paper a 3rd former saying dat dat deh teacha haffi leff, cause him, di student naw ha no more respect fi a teacha who get slap dung..him too soff....now really....dat is all him concerned wid..dang...so much for higher education as afforded by these schools these days...shame an disgrace on a lot of levels...

it did not turn me violent ..
so why this set of youngsters ..

my opinion is ..
no discipline ..
no respect ..

the rules were set on behaviour ..
at home ..
on the street ..
at school ..
at church ..

you knew right from wrong ..
and when yuh wrong an your a$$ on the line ..

so yuh kno fe core de cane and whip ..
just like mi would never lift my hand against my folks who chastise mi ..
it would not occour to me to do the same against authority figure ..

now ..
dis-respect is disrespect ..
authority or not ..
an my boot will end up in your center seam ..

Have you ever thought that without it,your achievement and social interaction could possibly be much better?

Did you realize that the majority of people exposed to any danger like being shot,do not die from it? just because one does not experience the ultimate result.

So saying that there are many who did not succumb to the violence were not harmed by it.
there is scientific proof that the experience of violence does have negative effects on every person. living with the threat of violence as tool of behavioral development results with the person resorts to using fear as their primary tool of motivation. you cannot live with using fear as a motivational tool, and develop their highest potential as innovators.
I know we can't all be innovators,but nobody knows who will innovate the next technology to feed, save or empoly the next generation.
