Just came back Britisha.

I can say I am proud of how orderly they have the Transportation system. The government have acquired and are still acquiring new busses to help in transporting Jamnaicans all over the island. There is a new transfer bus park in Halfway Tree That allows paassengers to use a transfer ticket to their final destination. See one of the new buses here

In the minibuses ..no more standing ..they all have line up behind each other and once all passengers are seated they must drive off and allow another buss to fill up.

Love the renovation of the fire departments and the new fire trucks are well equipped to fight fire.

Love the highways and toll booth system. It now takes you 15 minutes from Spanish town to Kingston using the Highway

People claim sey tings ruff but dem a live good live as far as mi can si.

Last year..The fear violence is extending more and more into rural Jamaica... People dont walk as much as they use to...few people walk bear foot.. less farming.. more deforestation....more vocal about dance hall noise polution... More and more electrification.... Price of banana was extremely high... (I have never recovered from when I discovered a icemint reach $1.00) Pickni still ha manaz...

I agree,the fear and violence is even in rural parts now,places that 20 or 30 years ago didnt have problems with guns and robbery are now seeing an increase in both.

People in these places are have also developed a sense of survival,they know when to go certain places,and when to travel,...some people dont travel after dark now for example.

Thanks for those pics and your appraisal of the situation. So yuh never hear any gunfyah at night?

It does sound as if we are moving up in some areas, and seeing this is a real encouragement. I almost posted that mi nat going back there to liff, but if crime is brought under control, mi pack up and leff here right now.

btw is 5 years since I went home, to attend a funeral, and mi did fraid noh puss at the oepen air nine-night.

So true, I have a cousin who moved to a remote area, (backah Gad) and literally put that place on the map...no light, no running watah...mi asked har if she mad...

Anyways, now the place is almost like foreign, but what is disturbing is how fast the place has changed for the worse. It is not the quiet little haven from the maddening crowd anymore... boom box noises, and traffic...she said they even hear gun fire at night. **sigh** Now where is quiet or safe now..and yes, they make sure to be in by six pm.

I spend too much time with the police when I am there so my vision of Jamaica may be scewered.. I cant get past the security bars.....(no pun intended).. And if violence was to stop the price of property would sky rocket.. Still we might find oil next year....

Yes Wallie, I like t he new highway that was being built between Mobay and Ochi...I was truly impressed...

I was alarmed to see the number of black youths/boys begging in Ocho Rios...even ten fifteen years ago that was not seen; and sadly to say, many of them were mentally challenged. .

So while we look at the infrastructure changes and beautification, we cannot negate to watch how our people are progressing as a nation on a whole.

I had to go home 3 times in 2008.

Mi pakit dem empty yuh sheg.

The funeral I went to at the end of 08 was for my Uncle who was shot and killed in his home. Case still unsolved.

I see too few changes for the better, rural wise.

Bad or impassable roads. Much of my family in St Bess still have no power tho they were promised it over 1 year ago. Many or most in the district still tief light or hustling some other way for light.

Kids are more and more rude and slack. I see more girls at younger and younger ages, having babies.

I see growing unemployment – yet almost every man woman and child has a cell phone. My husband has a very, very young little brother – he’s now 9 years old – he has 2 cell phones.

The roads all thru St Mary are too horrid – too many, impassable. Of course down closer to the tourist areas, they’re gleaming.

The most marked improvement I see are the upgrades at the airports.

The Trip report is in it's proper forum.

I do not know where people get the sense that in JA all yuh hear is gun fyah an people cyan walk street again. I stayed in St Ctaherine and all midnight wi outa gate a chat an laff wid mi frens and neighbours. NO I did not hear one gun fyah. All the incidents I heard of on the news involved gang warfare.

I did not get a sense that people jus a walk a shoot people jus fi sport. Is time now wi give JA some credit for some good an stop tainting it like its the most violent place on earth. I feared no one and nothing going from palce to place. Christmas eve night until 2 am I was in a crowd of thousdands in Linstead and security forces were there but no incidents reported. Just people having a good time
