If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it Michael Steele who coined the phrase "Drill, Baby, Drill" during his speech at the Republican Convention last summer - a phrase which summed up the McCain policy on energy? I always wondered if was just me, or if there wasn't some sexual innuendo there whenever Sarah Palin would scream during her campaign speeches: "drill, baby, drill." Maybe it was just me.

Steele mistakenly thought that if he were a democrat, he would have won the MD senate primary, and then the seat, because previously, he had won state-wide election, except he did so on a ticket with Erhlich (Steele running as Lt Governor). It didn't help that Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, ran a less than effective campaign, maybe even complacent, since she was the sitting Lt Governor. Steele never realized that his conservative views wouldn't sit well statewide in a fairly liberal state like MD, and even in the corridor between the DC border and Baltimore. Anyway, Erhlich-Steele became a one term administration.

When the RNC mobilizes republicans in Congress to oppose Obama's agenda, there will be a black man in charge. Republicans have always cynically employed race for polical ends. GHW Bush had a black face on the Supreme Court to carry out "strict constructionism." For a while, Ward Connerly in California was the poster boy for the anti-affirmative action drive. When the republican party could not find a suitable candidate in Illinois in 2004 to challenge then senate candidate Barack Obama, they uprooted Allan Keyes from MD to run. They convinced Steele to run in MD hoping he would capture the black vote (which is relatively strong in MD), and now they have him as head of the RNC. I wonder how he will be received among the White Citizens Council, for example.

They are trying to increase minority support for the <span style="font-weight: bold">G</span>ame <span style="font-weight: bold">O</span>ver <span style="font-weight: bold">P</span>arty, but cosmetics alone won't work.

Bryant claimed later that he was afraid of fan reaction if he dared to recruit a black man.

USC’s Sam “Bam” Cunningham breaks through the Alabama line on his way to two touchdowns in a famous game in 1970.

Finally, in 1970, Bryant scheduled the University of Southern California for a game in Birmingham. USC’s black fullback, Sam “Bam” Cunningham, ran right over the Alabama players. He gained 135 yards on just 12 carries, scoring two touchdowns, and USC won the game 42-21, a humiliating defeat for Alabama on its home turf.

And legend has it that up in the stands that day, Alabama fans watched what Cunningham was doing to them, turned to each other and said: “Boys, we gotta get us one of those.”

I think that’s what happened to the Republicans. They looked at Obama and his popularity; they looked at the scoreboard, at the number of seats they’ve lost in the Senate and House. And they turned to each other and said, “Boys…”

why isn't it a possibility in your analogy that she can't she have simply used the welfare system as it is meant, as the majority of people use it- as a necessary crutch.

Say what!?!? I'm not defending either party. I think both parties SUCK and are full of CORRUPT politicians!

History will back up my thoughts and cynical nature as it applies to politics! How about yours?

I am leary of all POLITICIANS. I am especially leary of those who come from an area that has a deep HISTORY of corruption.

Tell me why I should not? Because Obama is some how beyond corruption because he is black? If that is the case then fine, I am leary of him because he is a politician from the Chicago political machine and he's half WHITE.....Does that make you feel better? I wish President Obamam sucess. To do the opposite would be to wish failure on my country and myself....as usual, if all else fails scream racism....I would have thought you beyond such tactics.

I did not say that.
You have not proved that he is corrupt.
No one knows if he is beyond corruption but to say that Chicago is corrupt then imply that any Politician coming out of Chicago is corrupt, without one shred of proof is idiotic and anyone who takes such a line is opening himself or herself to ridicule.

Please, show me where I posted anything that said President Obama was corrupt. I am discussing politics on a whole. Obama is part of politics.
I said Chicago politics is known for corruption which makes me leary of any politician from Chicago....Would this not be logical thought? How would this be an idotic assertion knowing the past history or for that matter the recent history of Chicago politics?

Politicians from Illinois and especially Chicago have a problem with ethics, They demonstrate an inherent penchant for corruption on a daily basis. As we speak Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been charged for peddling and profiteering of Obama's seat. The very same seat Obama attained after Republican candidate Jack Ryan's domestic sex scandal forced him out of politics.
Dan Rostenkowski’s political career went belly up in 1994 when he was indicted on corruption charges for his role in the House post office scandal. He was forced to step down from all Congressional leadership positions.
How about Mayor Richard M. Daley? How about the Daley family history in Chicago politics?.....Need I say more?

Obama signed on with Mayor Daley as long ago as 1987 when Daley was running for mayor....Why should Obama not be subject to my suspicion? As I said before, Obama is a politician.

It's not an indictment but merely an observation that all logical thinking people should consider of any politician.
