two things pop to mind..

- possibly encourage more Farming.. make us more self sufficient
- better customer service for visiting Jamaicans who live overseas, as nowadays we treat each other like crap, but smile up as soon as wi see whan yankee looking tourist.
- better local rates, and better treatment for locals visiting resorts
- less crime (just had to throw that one in.. )

Ok.. well if you take Carl Stone's 1970 report on Crime and its relation to Rentadreadonomics. You will notice that there was a 68% spike in the Rentadread community consequent to the release of the hollywood hit &quot;How Stella Got Her Grove Back&quot;

In the short to medium term it would be devastating!

In the long term however it could be a blessing <span style="font-weight: bold">IF</span> Jamaica had a government that could encourage innovation.

agree wid yu seh, sah.. but also less money ah run.... less weed ah sell, less renta dread, less capital investment, there will be impact... I still think our tourism product has less trickle down than say in Australia, with less social investment, less buy in from the public...

I ha two minds about tourism... I dont think we markket Jamaica correctly, nor do we maximise the revenue streams, there are threads of history that could come good, there are spots of tragdey and comedey that could be made into a marketable element, there are tie ins of education that are not focued on.. we market sex, sand, senisimilla..

A lot of little things could be used as attractions the need for the large capital intense investments are not nessiarily have high roi's...

my experience this season in doing business with the hotels, Sandals etc is there is a rise in tourism, last month every hotel I contacted had 95% occupancy. the deal is tourists are not spending once they arrive, they arrive but have no money to spend on extras.

in reality, I dont know is &quot;tourism&quot; to Jamaica stands a chance of &quot;dying&quot; in this economy.

Many people for example taking their severance and escaping for months on end to places lie Jamaica.
They not staying in AIs, but in rustic laid back areas like Negril.
Mi know at least 2 Canucks who have been laid off from a popular media house, who is actively planning to goto negril and practically &quot;live&quot; for the next 6 mths.

While tourism is a major source of income, dunno if a &quot;shake out&quot; wouldnt have some positive returns.

Den again, we in relatively uncharted waters, so all we can do is speculate.
