MG similar thing echoed by a woman from mauritania...that women there held a lot of power as it was a matriarchial society.

yuh know, I am finding it difficult to accept that as one of the key reasons for child malnutrition in India seriously, from what I have heard from some of the women who live there.

it's a combination of caste, geography, isolation, poverty, ignorance (about breast-feeding, of all things) and yes, gender that combine to create the situation in india.

You touched on a part of it I would say. Now on this board, black woman is not black woman. What I mean by that is, the gender of the black woman is defined by the society and culture in which we live.
And that is why Tropicana will always get rebuked from me.
Essentially it depends on the 'black gender' of the society, hence I think that 'we black women' on this board will not agree on our own image because of that.
Gender in the Caribbean is different to gender elsewhere. The differences between genders in most Caribbean societies are lesser than many others that we might have personally encountered.

ok read it. most of the ones I speak/spoke to are from around mumbai and nearby and work for US companies.

Color is also different from one society to another. What the Caribbeans call black, French might call mixed.
