well until those mortgage backed securities get removed from the balance sheets dem really cant tell what kinda financial shape the banks are in, and until den, the banks nah guh waan lend out nuh money.

Which was a faulty approach in any event. They started using the stock market to evaluate an already washed out economy when other signs were already present long before and were more telling in this regard.

Even a leveling off of unemployment would be a somewhat positive sign. To date the unemployment rate has experienced more lows than we've seen in a very, very long time.

One the subject of the Markets, they are speculating the hell out of Gold. Every Monday to Wednesday for the last few weeks it is shorted then by Thursday prices rally, just enough for Speculators to unload over the weekend and Short Monday all over again. There is no other game in town other than NCAA March Madness!

The stock market can be rising and the country is still in a recession. As a matter of fact that will be evident. the stock market wull always show growth long before a recession has bottomed out. where onvestors have theor money on the side and of they see the market moviong,they will put it in. this is not because they think th erecesion is at aan end. but because they think that they can make money inthe market. the markett measures investors confoidence. it is not a measure of the streanth of the economy.
th eeconomu jas bee oin a recessuin since 2007,tey the market was bullish, very bullish ondeed over this period.

I am selling my metal.
I just miss it every week by listing on Sunday when I should be listing on Thursday.

I was trying to sell a lot this weekend but failed because the wise buyers know that on Monday the price would fall no matter.

Milo, u can pass the "curmudgeon" title on to me. I think you have been spending too much time watching msnbc. A mine north of here in Questa (the only game in town) layed off 300 people last month. Shops that have been in business for 20 yrs. in Taos and Sante Fe are closing their doors cuz the Arabs that own the buildings won't lower rents. You think a turnaround in the stock market this week will float these peeps for two more months?
...or howbout askin peeps in New Orleans about recovery.

How's the trade balance doing?
Howbout the deficit spending?
...and who's holding most of the U.S. "paper" these days? Isn't it the chinese?
Last I heard, if it weren't for unemployment, most people only have a cash reserve of maybe 1 paycheck before they start going in the "red".

I'll give ya a "few":
....The gun manufacturers are doing a booming business...
....and things in Afghanistan may be heating up. Haliburton is still a safe bet.
