Very sad,I was touched by the statement of the youth who said that the police seems to regard being poor as a crime,a very sad stae of affairs indeed,and no one seems to have a viable solution to getting rid the culture of extra judicial murders in the police.

I think this is what we should be boycotting Jamaica over. I did warn the JLP that when they became the GOJ the PNP Activists would switch to become Human Rights Activists and they would not be let off so easily as a PNP Government was.

Imagine having Omar Davies commenting an MP whose Constituency was one of the bloodiest for the last decade, racked by an ugly internecine war that pitted various gangs against each other, virtually street by street.

good news is the fact that Champs is on this weekend.... this is a demonstration of Jamaican determination and organisational skill. Proof that we are not the sterotype that we are seen. Reggaee laid bback, cricketers, money grubbers, renta dreads.. Evidence that we as Jamaicans are capable of taking things and developing it.. That we dont need outside intervention to do things that is world class.. There is nothing anywhere on the planet that is comparable in terms of chams... It is why we have consistently out performed the rest of the world in atheltics.. It demonstrates the essense of being Jamaican... it is a demonstrations of how small social investment pays off. It is a tribute to the volunteer spirit of Jamaian teachers...

This week end I will tell my children that this is what I expect from them to go out there and die... To say when it is over I cannot give an ounce of effort more.. That if I lose I know there was nothing else left in the engine... I dont expect victory I expect the ultimate commitment and effort... That is essence of being Jamaican...


champs is an analog of our history.. it was started as a showcase for the atheltics of the elite.. it evolved into an event of considerable popular appeal. it is consitently the mostl highly attended sporting event in Jamaica.

now that you have that good new, our men have been killed for decades.. I find that too often they are condemmed as theives and less than human by those better off.... And it is out of this miasma of poverty the best that we have have emerged..

At champs has eveolved from a friendly rivalry into the a deadly commpeticiveness behind flags and artifical constructs that have been put in place by our leaders..

One of my cohorts will be taking pictures there.

I think to a large extent the police force in jamaica see themselves as more of a containment body,one that keeps the poor in check,certainly there is a big difference in how they treat the wealthy from the poor.
Most jamaicans are imbued to think that being rich and living in a large property means that one is somehow above reproach,in the police force its no different,the rich are cosseted,while the poor are continually hassled.

When I lived in Jamaica as a youth we constantly had police coming in our neighborhood at all time of day or night and beating up/and or carting off to jail who they didnt like the look of,our only crime was to be standing on the street corner where we live.
Yet there was never any kind of reciprocal policy in the much wealthier suburbs.

I was born in canterbury in mobay,and even at that time it was earmarked for police brutality because people were poor,and in the eyes of the law police brutality is justified because poor people are more likely to get into crime to feed themselves,..there is no justice system in jamaica,it`s a big joke.
