The South St Andrew MP Dr Omar Davies is rejecting an Australian documentary quoting him as saying he finances a criminal gang in his constituency.

The 20-minute video documentary called 'Jamaica’s Killer Cops' was released today.

It was shot sometime ago in Kingston and highlights the problem of police abuse of citizens in some inner cities.

Dr Davies said there was some dishonesty in the technical editing of the documentary to make it appears as though he supports criminality.

This afternoon Dr Davies condemned the report by the Australian reporter.

champs is an analog of our history.. it was started as a showcase for the atheltics of the elite.. it evolved into an event of considerable popular appeal. it is consitently the mostl highly attended sporting event in Jamaica.

now that you have that good new, our men have been killed for decades.. I find that too often they are condemmed as theives and less than human by those better off.... And it is out of this miasma of poverty the best that we have have emerged..

At champs has eveolved from a friendly rivalry into the a deadly commpeticiveness behind flags and artifical constructs that have been put in place by our leaders..

One of my cohorts will be taking pictures there. </div></div>

Wahalla in all the years that we have had the problem of Jamaican on Jamaican violence in Jamaica if we had done something comprehensive about it wouldn't there be more good news to celebrate?

Wouldn't there be more Boys and Girls at Boys and Girls Champions?
As for Boys and Girls Champs being good news event that is just a small part of the story, over the years the events in and around Boys and Girls Champs has been a killing field. This year the most drastic steps have had to be employed to proscribe the expected violence. Steps such as banning after-parties.... how can this be good news when the whole is taken into consideration?

So we should celebrate poverty and Jamaicaness simply because a few students despite the mis-Education system turning out illiterates by the hundreds, despite the privations of the half-starved kids going to school to get what is now a shadow of what their parents pay taxes for, despite the fact that some of those very teachers, parents and even students are slaughtered daily all this should be forgotten come Champs Time.... <span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">yeah!</span>

A Calabar High School fan was yesterday slashed with a knife on the arm after he was reportedly involved in a fracas with a Kingston College student outside the National Stadium in Kingston.

Police said the incident was the most serious of several which kept officers busy on the penultimate day of ISSA/ Grace Kennedy Boy's and Girl's Athletic Championships.

A female vendor who said she had to run for cover while clinging to a bunch of school flags she had on sale, said the incident started after a group of Calabar students attacked a KC student who was on his way to the stadium.

&quot;Is them rush the KC youth but them never know that is over Swallowfield [community] there so him come from. The youth go for him family now and the man come and cut the youth on his hand,&quot; said the woman.

&quot;Is about 10 of them a keep up the foolishness out here from morning. I don't know why them don't go home 'cause they don't come to support anybody; them just bring pure destruction,&quot; she added.

Yesterday, police officers had to move quickly to prevent the incident from escalating as the youngster, dressed in khaki uniform and a Calabar flag tied around his heavily bleeding left arm, rushed for support from his friends.

&quot;You don't see that the boy them cut me, the boy them just cut me a while ago,&quot; the youngster related angrily to a group of Calabar supporters.

The huge crowd immediately rushed in the direction of where the incident took place, but they were stopped by police on motorcycles.

Several people who had gathered, including the injured boy, were searched before he was escorted into a police service vehicle and taken to hospital.

&quot;This is the only real big flare up we have had since the start of the day and it was quickly brought under control by the officers as you can see,&quot; said Inspector Wesley Christie of the Stadium Police Station.

&quot;...We deployed the necessary number of officers based on the crowd expectation, and we have managed to keep things under some level of control. Tomorrow (today) we expect a bigger crowd and as such the number of police officers on duty will have to be increased,&quot; said Christie.

Good documentary. But as always the question is what to do about it. The answer is nothing. Because no one wants to take the necessary steps to fix the inherent problems. While the police do kill many in cold blood, the police are still not the major killers. Now we can cuss and talk about job creation and where was the money for this spent and all sort of things that do have some validity, or we can realise that life is not perfect and we have to do more. The biggest problem relating to crime is the ghetto itself.

Being poor does not make you a criminal. But living in the ghetto literally can. Before anyone jumps down my back please google population density and social pathology. Having large numbers of people or animals in close quarters breeds crime and deviance. The only logical solution is to try to clear out the ghettos and get people back into the country. Farm life is not grand but it is an honest living, you will have food to eat, and your children can go to school free now and try to get ahead, and it will break up the gangs.

Sadly I am forced to agree with you. There are some-ones but not here. Usually it is some poor white misguided Foreigner who thinks that Jamaica is a Paradise and if they could only fix this one thing everything will be all right. Immediately he/she will be shouted down by an over-the-top, poor, white American <span style="font-style: italic">(aided and abetted by most of the so-called Jamaicans here)</span> who will say Jamaica is a Paradise and stop beating down Jamaica, roll up a fat one, drink two more Red Stripes and chill, before you get banned.

That is the crux of the matter. Everyone born in town wants to stay in town but sometimes people have to do what is best for themselves and society, not just want they feel to do. And who doesn't want to has to be made to.

Who should do it? A project like that must have bipartisan support, which is the real reason it will never happen for now. I am not under any delusions that this is going to happen. I merely said it is what we need most right now.

Let me also state I don't mean we should kick people out, adequate provisions would have to be made. And yes there are gangs in the country but not to the same degree or danger level as town. Nothing is perfect, but better is better.

Anyway, as it relates to population density, you're comparing the wrong things. New york is more than square miles on the ground, it also extends upwards. The average person in new york has more personal space housing wise than the average person in the slums. So what you needed to compare was how many persons are sleeping in what size room. To get technical, the issue is &quot;crowding&quot; rather than mere density.

Also multiple studies have been done. Not just one study which included non-human animals. And humans are animals and whether or not you realise it we still correlate very very closely with many species. Not just in behavior, but in genes as well which is why we can test medicines on them to know if they will work on us.

The gist of the studies is NOT that interaction with criminals breeds criminals, but that the stress of the confined environments creates the pathology. One of the ways this is manifested can be in criminal acts. (Arguably the rise in homosexuality is also another result.)
