CNN wasn't around during the '70s. I think they started in the early 80s.

So he demands to be flown to Cuba, where the flight is headed. And he came up with a plan to get to Cuba - without a buying a ticket, of course. What's the method to his madness?

The reality is that these things can't be prevented 100%. People/entities intent on doing this will find ways to get pass security and gain access planes. I fear I may be on one of these planes when stuff goes down.

Still, authorities should do the best they can.

HTB? The only <span style="font-weight: bold">HTB</span> I know of was Hannah Town Bakery! They made some good spice buns back then.

Maybe you're talking about the Turner Broadcasting company. I don't know that they had a presence in JA during the 70s, but then again, I can't remember anything before '79.

Unarmed security guards at the Montego Bay airport were unable to stop a hijacker from getting on CanJet Flight 918, reports are indicating.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper reported online that an airport official told them a man &quot;threatened personnel in the terminal before proceeding to the aircraft. But still, he was not restrained because there were no armed security personnel in the terminal.&quot;

CBCNews.ca confirmed with an official at MBJ Airports Limited, the company that runs the airport, that security officials do not carry guns in the terminal building at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

The senior official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to CBC News from Montego Bay, said it was not clear when or if security at the busy Caribbean airport would be allowed to carry guns in the future.

The company official who spoke with the Jamaica Gleaner said security officials would not likely be armed, despite the recent incident.

The attempted hijacking of 174 scheduled passengers and six crew members was an isolated incident, the official told the paper.

Jamaican police later stormed the Canadian charter flight after negotiations with the gunman broke down, taking him into custody and safely releasing the crew members.

Uf they were toi be billed by the local authorutues for th epolice oivertimme as would be the case antwher eldse they woulf find it more economical to have better means of deterence, thna a few guards that hav eto rely on bad breath or some other means to stop armed intruders. I bet if they were whiute guards they would have been well armed.
