The worst part is when they take that disgraceful habit with them abroad, which proves that them beg not because of need but it is just hard to break that bad habit.

#1 I did not and still think the OP meant to talk about lawyers and doctors?
#2 even if this is so, by sheer numbers it must be less well off that is actually getting the bulk of the remittances outside of businesses.
#3 I was in no way shape or form dealing with gunmen only, in fact it was the persons caught between the gunmen and the effects of a corrupt State that was my concern.
The ones who maintain a job or would get and keep one if they could. They are the folks that you can best use as a measure, since they could have been more productive and less dependant if they had free will.

The folks who have to make a decision to work not more than a mile or two from home and in a certain vehicular path. The ones who cannot got to movie or a party too far from their homes because of the fear of going or coming.

Those are the ones who might have to make a decision to buy a bigger TV set, a washing machine, to take a taxi instead of the public bus because the other choices would put their lives in danger and hence would be less cost effective.

I have to say most or all of the participants on this board love to argue a point without taking into consideration the facts take this discussion about entitlements, who gets them, who expects to get them and whether or not Jamaicans in the Diaspora should cut the leeches off and teach them a lesson.

If you had relatives in Back Bush you would have heard by now that one man was killed on his way to shop on Sunday Morning.
the Area was already tense because the Police had shot two men, one dead and the other went to hospital.

Your relatives would know from experience that there was going to be a retaliation and the Police would be at best unhelpful and at worst part of the problem.
So early this morning the police and residents discovered the body of a headless man, presumably killed in retaliation.

Given what we know of these Garrisons the vast majority of persons living there just want to get along with their lives and are too poor or too weak to move to other places.
My question is wouldn't your phones be ringing off the hook now for monetary support for:

special rides to school or work?
funeral(s)?
food?
clothes?
moving truck?
etc?

I think we should not willfully suspend reality when we discuss events surrounding our country.

I dont know big man,I send money to jamaica on a regular basis,and some of the people who ask me are not exactly in the kind of position you mention.
There are about 5 people who telephone me and ask for money,some more regular than others,and everyone single one of them is in some form of employment,either self employed,or in public service,I think its a kind of expectation,people think you are somehow doing better than them,and whatever their circumstances YOU are somehow more financially able than they are.

I could tell you some stories to make your hair curl,...I dont agree with blu`s &quot;entitlement&quot; description,...but I think there is a dependency there that definitely is borne out of laziness and a tendency to think that because you are in farrin you must be rich,..or you SHOULD be rich,..if not then &quot;yu wasting time a farrin&quot;.

I think I will change my mind after reading everything that other posters have written. I guess we have grown into a form of terminal dependency.
I must admit I don’t really have two many friends in Jamaica one or two at the most, the rest are two brothers, our family was never too close to cousins, so I don’t get the requests in frequency and volume. Even if I did, anyone who knows me from home has figured out by now that based on my circumstances, today I could be could be flushed and the next day busted.

So yes maybe we have been on a bridge too far and those of us in the Diaspora and the beggy-beggy ones in Jamaica exist in a symbiotic relationship that may be impossible to break.
