What Jamaica is going through pales in comparison with every country in Europe, The US, China,Japan etc. 50 years after independence the Us was inh a worse state of crime than Jamaica is today. Jamaica is in no worse position than any country after 47 years of independence, It seem so but gioven the toos it has it is a myracle we don't see civil wars already. I do agree with you,some people,especially foreigners,..are most definitely not qualified to speak on jamaica`s behalf,they visit for a few days,get some local personality to drive them down a couple streets,and talk to locals from the safety of their car, and then act as if they are qualified to speak with some authority on what they perceive to be jamaica`s problems,..I have no time for people like this,...but every now and again you get an a-hole like this that refreshes the page on the discussion surrounding jamaica`s post independence blues. </div></div>

This is why we should read with a fair amount of skepticism...for many here would chortle that the man is describing what we were saying all along and how he is right on the money...but he is only bringing coal to New Castle, in so doing, and as I hinted I sincerely doubt NOW even more, that he ever set foot in Jamaica...all those interviews that he is talking about sound very phony to me...but then everybody has to pay their mortgage and rent so they will say anything even if it noh goh soh fi get some dough.

I can understand why some Jamaicans, even some on this board, will always blame colonialism (which is not to say that colonialism has no role) because it helps them to avoid placing the blame - substantially - where it belongs: on corruption and the political culture that breeds corruption, ineptitude, mismanagement, the failure of Jamaican citizens to demand more from their elected leaders. By blaming others, we avoid taking responsibility. Reference is made to 'history' and claims which cannot be corroborated. This intellectual dishonesty is not surprising.

This is exactly what it is. There was a time on this board when bad....err worst Government was happening in real-time, one was so bold as to post about it in GD or almost any other fora, it would be locked down or just wiped, if you persisted in any way you could be banned and a whisper campaign initiated against you.

Bad/corrupt/failing Jamaica has a very large cheerleading, p0m-p0m waving, peanut gallery and this board has become ground zero.
LOL 1/2 the stuff they write I honestly believe that they themselves don't even believe it. They have to defend bad things and as unpleasant as it is they winch and post it.

It kind of a bad narrative about our nature and why we fail, we cannot bring ourselves to face the hard truth and do something about it.
