The news comes a day after GM (GMGMQ) filed for bankruptcy protection in New York. The company did not identify the buyer nor name a price, saying only that the deal would close by the end of September.
But a source identified the buyer as Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. in China.
As part of the deal, some GM plants will continue to build the Hummer brand for the new owner, at least for awhile. The company said its Shreveport, La., plant will keep building Hummers for the new owner until at least 2010.
Source </div></div> Can you believe that the developement of the Hummer was funded by taxpYers as a military transport vehicle,by a company owned by Chrisler? They it was sold to GM,then now The Chinese. The strange thing is that this is the result of action by those who complain that too much of US technology has been transfered to China by ethnic Chinese workers.

When people's backs are against the wall, when there is no money to send the children to school and put food on the table, people always blame the government first and foremost, and rightfully so. The sad fact about GM is, they lost a lot of support and goodwill among the car buying population because of a lot of past wrongs like fighting Environmental control, mandated seat belt proposals, efficient mileage proposals, etc, etc, too numerous to mention here. But the worst of the lot was when they colluded with the Big Oil companies and others to kill the Electric Car even when they had a good version the EV1, designed by them... It was being slowly accepted in California before a combination of factors led to its demise, they were all rounded up and destroyed. Imagine good cars being DESTROYED because they were ELECTRIC!!and before they caught on with the general public... that was wicked, very wicked if you asked me... </div></div>
Again, the government[s] went along with all this, and now we see the aftermath. The sad joke is, we the average consumers could see something like this looming on the horizon; but who are we to say "I told you so?" As way back as in the 1980's Lee Iaccoca had to "bail out" Chrysler...so these financial fiascoes in the auto industry is nothing new; but some chose not to listen as long as the shareholders got paid, the consumers got shafted and they got their bonuses...well, chikkins have come home to roost..<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">

If you ask me..after the restructuring, they should follow Iaccoca's motto and build products that provide customer satisfaction, bring back competition in the work force especially among unionised workers; and in the industry as a whole,<span style="font-weight: bold"> rebuild confidence in the American consumer..those who have money left to spend </span> and even foreigners, hire better marketing advisers, people who can afford to work for a penny a year..among other things, until this mess is straightened out. Now is the time for every Joe Blow to have a say in the matter, afterall out tax dollars a run tings now..

Well, saw where Frederick A Henderson, President and CEO,.,General Motors has taken out full page ads in the local papers..sweet talking GM car owners and would be owners, looking for business.
Few sentences from Mr.Henderson's letter to "Our Customers" jumped out at me. I quote them verbatim.
<span style="font-style: italic">At this critical time in our history, we cannot afford to lose your business. Or your trust. You have our word</span>
They must be reading this thread. <span style="font-style: italic">
Over the coming days, months and years, we will prove ourselves by being more transparent, more accountable and, above all, <span style="font-weight: bold">more focused on you our customers</span>..</span>

If they had good business acumen from day one, they would know about, "the customer is always right"...that is good business sense. Now that they have driven [no pun intended] driven them away, they are coming on bended knees. Better late than never.
Maybe GM needs to advance a new program where the consumer try the product for say, 2 months free with option to buy...
That would increase the demand for which they would be more than happy to provide the supply.

If they can do that with the dealers, that they signcontract with, what about mere customers? They say many looking in th eface of sure death has the best apology.

<span style="font-style: italic">They surely knew about good business acumen, but making shoddy cars cheaply (which looked great) for the average Fool, made them much more profit... They over-did it to such an extent that when customers wized up, they just wanted to switch to another product... <span style="font-weight: bold">Better late than never</span></span> can only be a hopeful slogan for GM; but will the New GM do things differently than they did in the past? ~ that's left to be seen!
