The fact is some celebrities contribute to charities because they save on taxes - a good friend of mine, an accountant with celebrity clients told me that. Charities setup by some of the celebrities are not pertaining to what I would class as meaningful charities - charity for anything from retired race horses to insects. The fad now is adopting a lion or tiger for x amount a $ a month. Their PR department capitalised on the fact that these celebrities have those charities and that is the reality. Besides to set up a charity is not very difficult. I know someone that just setup a charity and now that he got his charity number he is waiting for the bucks to role in - charity is a business - what is irony.

yes, I agree with this. I dont feel it is right that because she has money and power she should be granted access to a child that the average person would not be able to adopt. I will go out on a limb and say there are better suited families out there that could raise the child in an environment more suitable for the girl.

This is unfiar, I do agree. However, I have a lot of respect for these women who do leave behind their families work their butts off to provide for the families back home. To be truthful, if I could afford a nnay, I would choose one of these women to give them a chcne to earn money insterad of some spoiled teenager to look after my children. If we choose tonot &quot;explit&quot; them, thn how would they earn a lvining? If they cant get a job in their original field then and we choose to see their willingness to be nanies as exploitive then we are depriving them of a source of income to take care of their children back home. It isnt perfect, because abuse can come from this, but it is better than nothing, and gives them a way to achieve some thier goals. ( I had a Philipina woman say to me, dont I dare feel sorry for her, and that comment put me in my place and to see things thru her eyes).

I guess the point I am making is that according to how we see things in this case then to extend the thought pattern is to say that mixed kids shouldnt exist because they will end up screwed up no matter what....I dont buy the Tragic Mulatto argument only because I have seen it exist in kids who are fully black and still struggle with indeetity issues attributed only to mixed kids. Their parents were black and still didnt prepare the kids for the world about them. And a few of my mixed friends are far more balanced identity wisethan some of the full black kids I grew up with.

I do agree that it is subject to the job a parent does - that is just how I see it - but having all black parents doesnt guanratee that you wont want to run bleach on your skin to lighten yourself.

I agree with this. This is the best of both worlds in my eyes. She can have her extended family raise her with Madonna's help in Malawi, and receive some extra benefits like exposure to other places she would normally not have.

pardon me morph, it was just something that jumped out from the reading of the thread- the problem is that once it becomes PR you have to have all your i's dotted and t's crossed because the IRS is on the hunt. You have to be legit and everything according to charter and all in order. Donating to and founding are also different beasts.

of course I agree with you that many celebs and people with money- like a lot of dancehall stars lol- use them as a tax shelter, gimmick, ginnal and scam thing, but with these kinds of big foundations, garbage in gets garbage out and they can't last long. PR is very fickle, so if you are perceived as a scam, have nothing to show for the money spent, believe me, a few bad words can ruin some good things rightly and sometimes wrongly. I don't think Madonna's foundation is of that calibre where it is a PR move, she makes more money than god and to me it just seems like she is trying to justify being rich by giving back- remember she came up dirt poor and trash- I say that because it has gotten her a lot of backlash which I would assume no star needs, but you may be right.

what is your friend's charity so we know to steer clear!?

I think it is ALWAYS preferable for a child to have a home than to be raised in an orphanage.

If she will love the child as her own I say more power to her - regardless of her colour the child's colour or where either of them are from.

Yes but these charities still do good, don't they?
Whatever their motivation is between them and GOD = I wouldn;t refuse a million dollars because I thought the giver's heart wasn't in the right place.

this is where I get torn cause my heart says let a child have a home. It is better than languising in an orphanage. but then my head gets muddled with all the other possbile factors.... aie sah


I still wish she would look at adoption within her own country if only to motivate others in the U.S. to do so.

I may be wrong but isn't it a very long wait to adopt a child in North America? I know three people personally who have gone overseas to adopt a child because it was very hard to adopt a child here. In those cases they went to Africa, China and Russia to bring a child home to join their family.

I hear varying outcomes to the wait issue here in North America, so it depends on the route you take. I am sure there are others on here who could speak to this.

I know for where I live, I woldnt adopt within the province only because of the laws that are in place here. All adoptions are no classed as open adoptions meaning the baby mom can return into the child's life at any point before their 18th birthday. I have personal issues with that - not gonna argue right or wrong on it, just gonna say that I have a problem with it - so that would be a deciding factor for me.

I think the average wait thru the public system in Canada is approx a 1 year wait.

but if you do it privately, the wait is much shorter. My friend got their first daughther weeks after birth. But the 2nd child they attempted to adopt, was taken away from them by the 2nd week when the baby mom changed her mind.

literally destroyed my friend's wife She was so devastated by the lost she had a breakdown.

the laws need to serve both the adopted and the adoptee and sometimes it seems that can be in conflict?

that little girl will have a MUCH better life and an infinite list of opportunities because of being adopted by Madonna. Plus, if she loves her, den ah suh.

And as far as adoption in North America: when i was in Mexico, i found out that it usually takes a pretty long time for a U.S. American or Canadian to adopt a Mexican child, but the process is <span style="color: #660000">MUCH</span> faster for Spaniards hoping to adopt.
