Very interesting how some peeps nat going back home...Mi notice how nobaddie noh rope een on the Dom. Rep, Haiti, TnT etc. I personally believe that crime is the #1 deterrent in all these countries...the Philippines included; ppl fraid of being kidnapped as well.

To a Jamaican, yard nicer than Dubai, the helper a yard more reliable and chat English, and they only reason they are here is for work/experience. They going back home.

There are so many variables that you would have to take into consideration. Place to live, means of income, transport, healthcare, security, family and friends support structure etc.

I've spoken to many people whose opinions range from,

Being able to spend time in both Jamaica and US/UK/Can.

Wanting to go back but don't have the means to do so.

Would only consider it if the could live comfortably in a manner to which they've become accustomed.

Would like to but feel they can't go back because they've been away so long and have no family.

Will go back on vacation but have no intention of returning to live.

Have no intention of stepping foot in the country ever again.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from going back home but equally, I wouldn't criticise anyone for saying they won't go back, each to his or her own.

I think this is the main cause.
People don't like change. Once they get accustomed to a place, they don't want to move again.
Other people are more adaptable, and can move house and quickly get adjusted to new environment (or one they've left long ago)

I moved back to JA twice and I am never going back again not even want to bury inna the fambily plot. No sah, 2 times the last time in '76 and had to run away. If things change in my life time and I am not too feeble then I will think about it - but right now - no babba me not going backdeyso.

Skelly – my husband is the direct opposite of yours.

Hubby has lived in America – NYC – for 6 years now.

He’d go back tomorrow, on a 9am flight.

Stopping him are opportunity, economics, housing and me.

Among many other things, he’s loathe to admit it but will ‘fess up when forced, that more educational and business opportunity has been available to him since being in the US.

As for the “me” part, I have a huge stake medical care. Because of my history and current issues, it’s no joke for me. There are certain medical matters that can only be addressed here for me. I know – I’ve checked them out in JA and it just ain’t flying. I’m not condemning medical facilities or health care in JA, just saying what I know I need, wont work for me there.

He'd also want to live far, FAR from the drama of his Young &amp; the Restless like family. That means we'd have to build a house or buy one.

We have land there to build but mercy faddah - when we looked into the costs of building the kind of modest place we'd like ...

people don't go back because of the reason they left in the first place- economic conditions/opportunities, out of control crime &amp; violence;
&amp; as far as jamaica the perception of crime being out of control certainly not gonna help matters...
many expats would return if they felt things were safe &amp; that they wouldn't become a target if people think they have money...a lot of people want to return &amp; help build their homeland but for most the drawbacks just not worth it...
i have one aunt that makes it clear she has no desire to ever set foot back in j-a not even for vacation;
it's a great tragedy that the diaspora is not more involved in the development of the islands-- a great resource wasted

People and places change. Issues that caused you to leave when you're in your youth might not apply when you're ready to retire. Also, if it was your parents decision to move when you're young, you really never understood the situation.

I know many people in Jamaica that wouldn't even consider living anywhere else.

The tragedy was the brain drain that occured when the diaspora left out, today all of them coming back would only cause chaos as the infrastructure is not ready for a sudden population growth. After traffic in Kingston bad already.

However if 'a few good men' came back with a vision and capital, that would help.

i don't buy it about the population growth thing...others are buying off all the lands right under the j'cans noses &amp; living comfortably too;
it's a trick if you ask me; some forces out there are trying to keep the j'can people divided; whether it is among themselves on the rock or between on the rock &amp; the diaspora; it's really a shame as like i said it is foreigners who get the true enjoyment out of the rock; what about us whose ancestors gave blood, sweat &amp; tears;
now strangers in our own land?
personally i want to make a change and still do wish to maintain at least one residence a yaad; my mother still owns our house out in portmore so the hope is still there;

You make is sound like Yaad overrun with farrina like the English tek ova Spain, or Cubans in Miami. I only see farrinas in the touriss areas. De farrina you meet in Town are mostly Trini or Bajan. But again not in alarmingly large numbers.

Jamaica still fi Jamaicans. And matta a fact, now is the time to buy. Not as good a time as 15 years ago, but the prices bound to rise afta de recession pass. So horry.
