Mind youhe was not stined because if any sexual expression. It was just a matter of a difference in opinions with hi sselection of music he wanted to sing.

That is why he was who he was. Regardless of what a person thought of him and his life, there isn't a person on the planet that can honestly say the man had 'no talent'.

Look to the Creative Arts industry in Jamaica and you may find your answer there. Many are peculiar in their ways, and for the most part the reaction is, hands off. One example, look at is Oliver.

I know several openly Gay Jamaican guys and women. I was shocked some time ago when on a message board(dancehall) people were supporting a very butch lesbian dancer. I don't think the anti-gay sentiment is as extreme as some people think. Sure some gays speak angrily or violently against homosexuality but that exists in all societies. </div></div>

I think you're exaggerating quite a bit too. I know of several and when I'm able to I will link you to a butch lesbian dancehall dancer who is surprisingly VERY popular.

Whoever asked this question is quite ignorant! Gay or not Micheal Jackson was loved, especially by Jamaicans and other West Indians.

Yes. Many of the gays I know and who have always lived fine in JA were in the dancing, acting arena and never beat up nor attacked.

Most people on this planet don't agree with homosexuality, but most of us don't hate fellow human beings for that fact. Just because some Jamaican men have an angry and perhaps violent attitude towards homosexuals doesn't mean ever gay is hated or that most Jamaicans hold this hatred in their heart.

ok, so on my next visit to Jamaica, when i go out in public and someone asks me if i have a girlfriend, and I say no, i have a boyfriend.... would you suggest this? would that be alright?

I think you're right when you say Jamaicans love(ed) Michael, but I still think many of them feel like he was gay, but they don't want to think of him like that, for w/e ignorant reason.

Actually, no, I didn't, but I probably should....sometimes it's easier to be physically removed from the answerer to avoid a big &quot;bangarang&quot;....hence the question placed on the board. Plus, really wanted to find out how the diaspora felt about it.

What I've observed here is that there is disdain and alot of intense mout talk aimed at anyone who is thought or said to be homosexual, which is pretty much to be expected, given the cultural adversion to homosexuality.....maybe it is more &quot;mout talk&quot; than actual action. It just seems that people jump to a conclusion really fast, whether it has been proven or not....all it takes is ONE person saying someone on di border and dem salt!....rumors spread quickly.

If I have time within the next couple days, I will ask the same question about MJ, of peeps that I know around here, to see what they have to say.

Actually I don't think anyone here would be annoyed if I asked them that....I'm NOT pointing any fingers or saying anything derogitory about anyone, just wanting to know people's opinion.

Since I live here, the more I know about understanding the culture, the easier it is for me to deal with the differences.
