</div></div>The Jamaican motto is much older than it's independence.
It was not really copied from the US motto since the Jamaican motto original latin was &quot;UNDUS serviet uterque UNI&quot; is really different from the latin words of the US motto.

The Jamaican original motto can be found on Jamaican currency that predates independence.It was also on the old Jamaican coat of arms

i have to say that jamaica's motto is appropriate even though some people think it is hypocrisy...
even though jamaica vast majority african ascendants we are still out of many one people as even the africans came of different nations or 'tribes' if you will;
those tribal affiliations melted away &amp; they all became jamaicans except in latter days when we re-divided ourselves into tribes, mainly on political lines &amp; in some cases shade, race, ethnicity &amp; religion

The words in dod we trust was added to US coins as a religious setiment, not to replace the original US motto.

That was not my intention really. It Was a personal favour I granted to an enquiring young guitarist. Who appeared genuinely interested in figuring why I seem so young and successful, while he couldn't not seem to figure how to survive. Yes it was in the early 80's an this was on Whitehall avenue in St Andrew. As he sat under a mango tree in a big callaloo farm.He saw me passing and stopped me, he then acknowledged that he observed me and simply thought that i should be able to address It. So he asked me the question. I was then very involved in sociology. His question to me was, How is it that you seem so successful at whatever you do, yet all the people around me, seem to be always have some sort of difficulty they can't overcome. . My answer to him a I have always been is to th epoint. Yes I get long winded with age. I told him that they only difference between me an those he know is that . In life I always &quot;Run things and never let things run me. while those people allow things to run them, because they have not acquired the skills to run things. I told him to consider it his motto. What he did was he made up a little song that he played on his guitar instantly. Then he started laughing and said he will use it and make a hit. He was always very friendly to me as the majority of young men was. He mad a hit from the song, after changing it to 'we' instead of 'me'.
