Serena just lost it There are no excuses here. She beat herself. I know you don't call that type of penalty when the match is on the line but she lost this match very early. When she smashed the racket you could see it going downhill from there.

I think the commentators focusing on her is more about her being an American. This is what American commentators do. They did not seem to be "goat mouthing" her. She was the favorite.

This whole thing is ironic because Clijsters for years could not win the big games because of her emotions. She did not show the outwardly but it is said that she would be extremely nervous in the big matches. It seems she now has them under control after giving birth and getting married. Congrats to her on a great US Open run

I watched the whole match – watched tennis all weekend.

I love Serena (and Venus). Love ‘em!

Serena is spectacular.

Still tho – she did exhibit very poor sportsmanship.

You can put whatever label you want on it – anger issues, poor sportsmanship, lack of control, passion – whatever – either way, the behavior was out of line. Out of line for her, for McEnroe, for Agassi – black or white or green – doesn’t matter – telling the official you could shove the ball down their throat and throwing ‘f’ bombs at them, is just – wrong.

You can of course disagree with a call but, that’s not the way to go about doing it.

<span style="font-weight: bold">SHE</span> even admitted as much by issuing a statement admitting she handling the situation poorly.

And this (from her site) is more than enuff.

HellOOOOOOOOOO - it's a game - she made a genuine mistake - she's not the first and wont be the last - it's not like she sat in the middle of the capitol and, for the first time US history, called the President of the United States a liar for the whole world to see and hear.

They should just drop it now and stop all this talk of banning her from the Open next year.

I liked her as a strong and fierce foe to many, but now I'll have to strip a few stripes off her... I'd say, that her apology does not atone for her behaviour.

She is a &quot;seasoned competitor&quot; and although still a good player, has past her prime and should know that there are many who would like to see her go! ~ She would have been much better off, just challenging the call against her, be more restraint when it was disallowed and let it slide...

People like john mc-enroe is known here for his outbursts on the court more than for his tennis prowess,I think we should cut the lady some slack,..I am just surprised she hasnt cuss more badwords on the court in the past.

restraint is not a word one can use to attribute to serena. she is just not that kind of person.

she and her sister are like night and day.

venus-you will never know what she is thinking off court or on court.

serena-wears her heart on her sleeve, you know exactly what she is thinking off court and on court.

this is not the first time that serena got caught up in cass cass on court and it will not be the last, she has too much passion for the game.

by the way last night roger cuss the officials too


and someone had mentioned that tennis is an individual sport hence when the players do something uncharacteristic all focus is on them as opposed to a team.
