Colonial education surely did a job on the educated.
The Indian proverbs is right about how to keep people enslaved.

That is why they have been so successful al maintaining their division.

They Made the lowest cast the only one that can bury the dead. That made them satisfied to stay in that caste for millenniums.

We have many millenniums to go as glorified slaves too.

Right now we are faced with crime.
that is just the flavour of the times.

There will be many others, and we will be just as unprepared to solve them.,
After all the best way to keep people enslaved is to reach them Topsy turvy.

Forum: A crime epidemic?


What can and should be done about crime in the Caribbean?
Despite all efforts to date, the Caribbean continues to be seriously afflicted by a seemingly worsening scourge of crime.
Judging from some recent headlines, violent acts are increasing with regularity and apparent impunity – in some cases becoming even more gruesome.

Much of this is gang and drugs related, and no country appears to be immune from this predicament.

What can and should be done about this situation?

<span style="font-weight: bold">Some high (or low) points:</span>

<span style="font-style: italic">Regional:</span> The Caricom Secretary General, Dr Edwin Carrington, recently declared that grappling with the upsurge in violent crime in the region is an urgent matter.

<span style="font-style: italic">Trinidad:</span> The government is considering permitting videotaped testimonies in trials to try to prevent the collapse of murder cases because frightened witnesses change their initial evidence. Estimates of gang-related murders in the county range between 60 and 80 percent.

<span style="font-style: italic">Guyana:</span> There’s been widespread criticism of the security forces in Guyana after allegations that police there tortured two murder suspects.

<span style="font-style: italic">Jamaica:</span> The Police Commissioner has resigned after failing to rein in violent crime in Jamaica. Police statistics show that more than 1,300 people have been murdered so far this year. Recently, a group of business owners formed their own security force saying the police weren't doing enough to tackle crime.

<span style="font-style: italic">Rest of the region:</span> The picture is equally dismal.

What’s driving this crime wave?

Is the Caribbean in danger of losing the battle against crime?

Are tougher measures needed?

Is more external assistance the answer?

Is this a task for the police alone?

Are governments overwhelmed by the situation?

Are you fearful?

i really do believe jamaica needs a strong-arm type...a no- nonsense statesman more than a politician type;
someone needed to introduce harsh measures in changing the culture of entitlement &amp; <span style="font-weight: bold">feudalism</span>;

if the gov't can or will not insure the protection of the citizenry then they are a failed gov't and the need for revolt is evident;

a clear message must be sent to the barbarians that uncivilized conduct will no longer be tolerated...
more creative policing- undercover operations, community organizations (militias? ) &amp; the sort;
also a 'cultural police' if you will;
no more obscene 'dancing' or music in places with young children...a new school curriculum- one that focuses on the majority people's history and sociology &amp; teaches respect for the majority population rather than continue to indoctrinate young minds with the failed philosophy of the past that teach black inferiority &amp; helplessness--instead of one that just spits out drones indoctrinated into the global order of feudalism...

Jah_yout, as you say, <span style="font-weight: bold">drastic times call for drastic measures.</span> ~ I totally agree... <span style="font-weight: bold">If the purpose is to change the culture and bring about a more progressive, moral and responsible society, we would have to be as drastic as needs be, to bring about the change desired...</span> As you are well aware there can be no GAIN without PAIN; this is what Jamaicans at all levels in the society have to realize and accept as a normal route of Sacrifice before we can emerge from under the morass of CRIME that has become so thick and stifleling... Donmanship and all its associated evils would be no more... What if we had to fight a civil war to overthrow the &quot;status quo&quot; if strong leadership was to emerge?.. <span style="font-weight: bold">How many would run away, how many would stay and fight for Jamaica, land we Love;</span> think about it! Fighting for a cause? Therein lies our dilemna... &quot;Give me Liberty or give me Death&quot; comes to mind.

Most Jamaicans grow up being battered bu the ones that was supposed to show them love. How could they be expected to develop a system that does not use violence and degrading treatment to solve a problem that civilized countries do when dealing with their special groups??
i m really disgusted that we can';r get meaningful suggestions that are expected from civilized people to solve a common problem.
I wouldn't like to be any of you military prisoners.

The problem is that most of us don't even recognize the effect it have on us.
and the rest is not willing to admit what they know.

But how does this hostile violent parenting style get changed into a protective and nurturing style? My posts about no hitting, no spanking, no humiliation, are usually met with scorn and disrespect here. It is almost like a religious right to &quot;discipline&quot; your children with hits and anger. I have pretty much stopped posting about it.

Doc, from one of your earlier posting, you were comparing the proposed &quot;harsh and draconian treatment&quot; of our vicious and dangerous criminals with treatment by other civilized people of their own... Could you tell the board, which &quot;civilized&quot; people or nation you were refering to.? It would be a shame to exceed their level of &quot;hospitality&quot; in treating our murderers and hardened criminals...
