mi absolutely agree with you about needing a place to release and act silly.
but that place should be OUTSIDE of the relm of where you earn your food.
i am sure that she trusted the folks that she worked with and that is why she allowed them access to her page.
it is a damned shame, as it is obvious that one of them betrayed that trust.

what good for others is certainly not good for me and I operate that way. period. it isnt fair what has happened to her, but is suh it go.

is she a drunk? probably not. does she look like one? well....and that is all that matters in the situation at hand.

My job for the state was running a recycling facility. Nuttin wrong with digging ditches either and they prolly get paid more than teachers! However...never would I have posted pics of me doing anything with a drink, at a party...you get the drift.

Honestly Europe is all about wines, and the brews of the countries. My mother's Doc had her on some lifetime medicine that if she drank ANY alcohol she would get very very sick. When she was going to Europe she asked the doc if she could please have ONE glass of wine in Parris, she just felt like she wouldn't have been there if she did not. He told her she still couldn't or she would get very very sic.

I could see holding the wine glasses in Italy and France, and the beer steins in germany as part and parcel of the trip. I think this is ridiculous.

The anticdote about your mother, although nice, wasnt necessary for convincing me of such. <span style="text-decoration: underline">This</span> teacher is in a profession that observes the behavior of its workers very closely. She should have enjoyed her drinks, hell drink until she passed out if that is what she was inclined to do. It still will not negate that she exercised poor judgement for posting her escapades on FB and then inviting her coworkers to share her memories with her.

Let me see... in my career, I was at 6 different schools, and out of 35 years of my life, and 6 different locations there is ONE, count them ,ONE friend I have kept whom I talk to almost daily, and whom I trust. I say she had the right to post HER &quot;escapdes&quot; on HER private Facebook page....her mistake was mixing up two words my Mom taught me to separate...FRIEND and Co-Worker are two different animals altogether.

HMMPFH. to my way of thinking, the concept of &quot;conduct unbecoming&quot; refers soleley to one's conduct while they are actually ON their job. what they do in private life (legal stuff i mean, not murder or some such)- is not up for censure by their workplace. period.

no matter if their job DOES hear about somehting they did on vacation, it's STILL not their place to do anything - unless that employee then <span style="font-style: italic">comes in to the workplace</span> in some inappropriate fashion.

What the person does ON the job is their only concern.

to me, what the problem here is, is that some nosey-eyezz busybody was someone this person made the mistake of calling 'friend'. cause nobody who is a 'friend' would sell yuh out so, when they know full well you perform your job in a proper manner, and the pictures posted were of purely &quot;off duty&quot;, legal, adventures that are perfectly appropriate for grown adults.

i <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">hate</span></span> busybodies who find my business is somehow their business. nobody at this person's job would ever have known about her facebook, if this so-called friend hadn't put their nose where it didn't belong by going to the woman's job to 'tattle'.

to me that's actually the bigger issue. cause i vehemently disagree with the entire concept that the ooman's job had ANY cause to do what they did. I no care <span style="font-style: italic">what</span> it 'looks like'. In fact I take issue with the entire concept that if it &quot;looks a way&quot;, then that is cause for firing.

To an employer, what an employee actually DOES - and ONLY while they are AT work - is the <span style="font-weight: bold">only</span> thing over which they have any jurisdiction. And the only reason they have to fire them -- not 'how it looks', what it 'seems', what some busybody gossips about it.... none of that has any bearing.

Your own time is your own time until you go and make it public, then it becomes a matter of public record. Anyone who THINKS what they post on facebook or anywhere on the WWW is PRIVATE in this day and age is either fooling themselves or stupid.

I still say that the alcohol in the pics is a bad message. I mean, are the drinks in hand a sign that a good time cannot be had without a alcoholic drink in one's hand? That they cannot put the glass down long enough to have their picture taken?

well no, i wouldn't think that if i saw pics of someone with drinks in hand

and one <span style="font-style: italic">can</span> make one's fb account private so it cannot be seen by the general public - only those who have been accepted as friends can view it. she was just on CNN saying she did it that way purposely so the public, students, or parents would not have access to her pics; only those she allowed to see them, could see them. yes it's still the internet but one would have to do some serious digging to get at info she had purposely restricted. If one of her 'freinds' didn't <span style="font-style: italic">make</span> the presence of those pics known, no parents or students would ever have seen them.

even without expecting them to be private... even if a parent or student HAD seen them - well so what? drinking booze is a common and legal adult activity which most adults do.

most of these kids' parents no doubt drink at home and the kids no doubt see it and are around it. are these parents then also to be &quot;fired&quot;? are they &quot;unfit&quot; parents? would that be cause to take their kids away from them, cause the kids are around while the adults have drinks after dinner, on weekends, at football games?

No, it's patently absurd. even if students DID see photos of a teacher having drinks on their off-time, that's not any kinda indication that they are somehow unfit to be around a kid in a teaching environment - and it's not cause for firing them. UNLESS the teacher is impaired ON the job.

does this whistle-blower burn books too?
