mi memba... An wi did all tink it was unfair.. afta all yu was a big man den.....an 6 former were exempt.. A sort of of yu mek it yu responsible.. But that was the point I realised that corpral punsihment by schools was simple abuse of power nothing else... And feel no way despite your tennis skills and cricket skills and the fact you are Jeffs cousin that is one of the markers I have of you...!!!! That was not punishment it was deliberate humiliation for no reason except to show dominance over a student...

My point that at MC there was no unauthorised punishment but it was subject to abuse.. You were caned for 1 1/2 hours denteintion... 3 strokes.... in a controled manner..I had a similar experience with a prefect called Archer who had issues with my brother if you recall. I had 1/2 hour for chapel dirty shoes... was doing my line, copying from the bible skipped a line and the SOB "shot" me again.. Then I protested and got shot again.. The drunk Staggy came in I protested and he caned me... Hell that was not about pain... I was too tough, a wasp sting was harder.. I did after all walked 5 mailes twice a day...I thouight the cane got the worst of it.. But my issue ius a child being punished by an ineberated teacher...

Corpral punishment cannot be managed...I could not protest as I did the cold calculus of reality expulsion... No appeal... As I could not be sent to another school that would have been the end.... Compromise let it die..

But when I go back I am going to urinate on Staggies grave.. And I forgive archer.. aye right...

I say if a parent wants to practice CP.. That is another issue.. But teachers no way no how...

Don't you recognize this sort of torture as a strategy of breaking the spirit of the person?
They elevate the institution and the persons carrying out these crimes to the level of all powerful.

I mean you have conciuously chose between being battered, and a chance of a future as a productive citizen.

the choice would probably be the difference between normal living and becoming a ne'er-do-well ins society.

How destructive is that to the person and the society at large. Afterall they invested lots of taxes in your preparation to that point.

Yet they think nothing of wasting it all simply because you refuse to be humiliated.

What priorities.

No Wonder the country is so much in a mess. abuse indeed! mi memba one day in 4th form mi leave mi textbooks under mi desk as was customary. come in di nex day an see all mi books scatter pon di floor after dem have extra lesson in mi class. den mi si mi name write big pan blackboard....seh mi haffi go eida clean di nastiest bathroom inna di school or get order marks an detention...

mi tell di teacher seh is not my fault her nasty student dem come dash weh mi book pan grung an mi modda neva sen mi a school fi clean bawchroom so she muss sen mi go detention an gi mi di order mark dem...

She never said a word nor did anything..

at MC yuh di get detention in half hour increments..if yuh get 1.5 hours in one week yuh get caning form housemaster...so sometime prefects used to shot detentions knowing that the ute a go over and den di ute haffi do dem favour to get off...bribe dem wid condensed milk..wash dem socks or sumtin so.

detention used to mean standing behind the desk and copying lines one word in pen one word in pencil...about 100 lines per half hour if i recall correctly.

Though seriously, because of those physical and mental abuses I'm sure students got back at their teachers in one way or the other. In elementary school, we used to pinch or thump a teacher's child every opportunity we got and threaten him with more if he ever called us out to his mother. Violence breeds violence
