i respect his music even if it is not something i would go out and buy...to me he is almost reminiscent of peter tosh;
i actually saw him perform live one night on a show with garnet silk...
he performed better than silk that night

he gave a really great performance and the crowd loved it...

we gotta give non-jamaican reggae artists their respect because some have a whole following out there;
lucky dube was huge all across africa; alpha blondie as well;
being from the root, some of us may not be so impressed, but they have their fans and a lot of their music is good...

Reggae has certain underlying principles that most foreign ears does not recognize.
Just like the Blues is unique with 12 bars, ans that is what make it the blues.the main difference between country and blues is actually the number .

yet the average person does not realize that they are very closely related. Jamaican Reggae is also easily recognized by Jamaican music aficionado' from any other Reggae.

including Africans like Lucky Dube etc.
Their reggae have an hint of African/ calypso rhythm. Those music does not recognize the listeners need to rest and take a quick rest within the music.

Most music can be successfully adopted top reggae by Jamaican musicians.

this is because they tend to give attention to every instrument and their place in the music .

Jamaican reggae treat every single instrument as either a drum or vocal,and there are each used to create the rhythm.

Most foreigners, seem to think that irrespective of how many instruments you use, once you can hear 4 of them that is enough.

they also forget that there is some SKA and Rock Steady in Reggae.

That is why As long as There is still Jamaican school of music I have faith that Jamaica will be the home of Reggae although Reggae will be internationally popular and produced worldwide..

Somewhat like Rasta. Rasta is internationally popular,and every country will try some way to capitalize on it. From the Caribbean Islands that banned and refused entry to dread-locked,visitors in the 80's that now depict dreads in their visitor brochure.

Reggae is going through a pressured time at present, due to the gay friction around the Darnall aspect.

Yes Dance Hall is reggae too.

Morgan Heritage are actually the sons of one of the members of TOOTS and the Maytals. So they may born in Brooklyn, but they grow up listening tho the Jamaican Rhythms. There's nothing wrong with non-Jamaicans playing Reggae at all - all I'm saying is it hardly ever feels right.

^^yea, was responding to blackstar's post about the 'accent'...
i think it's more about the feel like you say, than the accent...since once something goes international, people of different languages will do their own versions;
i don't like when some singers think reggae should only be done with a j'can accent...it doesn't sound good when they try to do a j'can accent &amp; end up sounding weird...just do your own language/accent
