From one perspective opening up Cuba means an impending boom to tourism for Cuba. Next you have to ask which tourist in their right mind is going to travel hundreds (if not thousands) of miles to Cuba and then have another Island paradise just 90 miles away (within eyeshot) and not go? The logical conclusion then is that a boom in tourism for Cuba will eventually result in a boom in tourism for Jamaica. Why is that not a good thing?

The rest of the world has had access to Cuba, only the US citizen has not.

Ironic Cuba US relationship improving, Venezuela US relationship going down hill....

The Caribbean as a region is not the only tourist attraction in the world. Jamaica has had a lot more competition that just Cuba for decades. In the USA there is a CVS pharmacy on one corner and a Walgreens pharmacy on the opposite corner and they both do great business. That is how the American consumer behaves, they shop at both. The same will apply to Jamaica and Cuba. The American consumer will go to both.
I think Jamaican tourism has more to fear from the bad publicity of crime (like with these missionaries) than it has to fear from Cuba bringing more tourists to the region.

Yes, this could have happened in the states, but it did not...and if it would have happened in the states it probably would have happened in like areas. (Baltimore, Washington, Philly, Chicago etc.)

Poverty ridden areas equal high crime. Simply stating a fact.

America does not have a habit of forgetting its citizens and when CNN displays this matter on its front page you better believe repercussions are coming if this is not resolved.
Why do you think prime minister Holness was right by the widow's side the moment this happened?
He is smart enough to immediately know without thinking about it that this matter could adversely impact the tourist industry and ultimately the economy.Last edited by 1FryDumplin; 06-22-2016, 03:26 AM.

If not managed well the bad press can negatively impact the tourist industry and the economy.

the killings are sad , yes, but to think that an international incident will come about just due to these two being killed is simplistic at best...if there was something more pressing that the US wanted to achieve, yes, they could use the killings as a mask for intervention, but such as it is today, these two murders r not that important in the course of their daily thinking where Jamaica is concerned
am curious...what 'repercussions' do u see as 'forthcoming'...even in the instance of scamming, the most that has been done is that they have just recently been proactive in going after the scammers n even that intervention is incumbent on who is involved etc...
