Well Air Jamaica controlled by Jamaica is still the safest airline that flies into Jamaica. No Air Jamaican pilot would not have been familiar with Jamaican landing conditions under all conditions

aie sah.. AA aand the american media gonna do what ever it takes to cast blame on the local authorities and not on AA or their pilot.

Actually a passenger (I think it was Ambassador Heavens) said there was clapping just before the crash!

The american media it seems is aready doing the wagon circling act.
There are articles and news reports all over alluding to the non-funtioning light. While common sence would dictate that if this was a contributing issue, then hundredres of preceding and concequent flights would have reported landing difficulties... but then again this is american media we talking about so I dont think we should be using phrases like &quot;common sence&quot; and &quot;american media&quot; in the same sentence.

BTW notice how the juno florida/usa media making out Brian Cole , one of the pilot to be some type of hero in the media?

Hopefully since at least one of the passengers seem to be related to the Tavares-Finson legal family, they will somehow rustle an effective legal team to represent the passengers.

ok found some interesting conversations on this airline pilots'message board.


Now I was talking to a co-worker who in is former life was a aviation engineer. He was explaining to me that most likely they came in too fast, too high or too far down the run way.
He explained that under bad weather conditions, since the pilots are basically flying blind, many airlines are guided in with what is called a Instrument Landing System (ISL)
Its some kinda eletronic system that allows the pilot to more or less turn the landing over to the systems on the ground (hence why unno need fi tun off unno cell phone as this can cause interfferance with the ISL)

Now mi did a little research and ILS is available on runway 12 only at Nm airport (http://aviation-safety.net/database/...?id=20091222-0), suh that may explain why they were told to land on that runway.

Now mi wonder if they had ILS, they why was the pilot still doing the landing as, from what me understand from this engineer, all the pilot should do is configure the plane properly for landing and allow the ILS to do the rest.
However it look like he landed in a tailwin which coupled with the slippery syurface, a guess could lead to the plane running off the runway.
Now mi ask bout the brakes, and mi learn that the wheel brakes are NOT used during landing. Well for one at the speed the plane comes in, under dry circumstances the wheels would break off if the brakes are engaged while the plane in high speed.
What they do is a reverse thrust, which really is some parts of the engine housing that opens up and deflests the air and gases that usually shoots out the back of the engine, forward and to the sides.
Also some &quot;flaps&quot; open on the top of the wings which cause drag and is in essence the air brakes.

the foot brakes only used when the plane rolling slowly and cane be used to help turn the plane when taxing..

ok.. not so good news.. well for any passengers looking to sue and meck $$$$$

just shared with this engineer bredren (we both working today, so have nothing better to do but chat bout planes)that the runway they landed on had ILS , BUT they landed in a tailwind.

He says you never land a plane in a high tailwind.
he explains that the tower tells what runway to use and maybe they used 12 becuase of the weather condition and it was the only one with the ILS, but if tower knew there was a tailwind on 12, they should not have instructed the plane to land on 12. they should have set it down on a differnt runway.
Now sure how many runways at norman manley doe..
