Man Killed in DeKalb Home Invasion

A man rushed to the hospital with critical injuries has died following a violent home invasion in DeKalb County.

Derrick "Ricky" Balin, 53, and his wife, Pamela, were in their home on Tunbridge Wells Road in Lithonia around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when someone forced their way in.

Police said Balin went downstairs to investigate, and his wife called 911 after hearing a commotion inside the home.

Officers said they found the man in a downstairs bedroom when they got there.

Balin was transported with severe head injuries to Grady Hospital, where he later died.

There is no word on a motive nor if police have any suspects

Another good deterrent is large dogs! I've had Dobermans since 1974 and now a standard poodle too. Between the two of them and a crew of yapping little dogs nobody will get far but I'm ready if they are that foolish. If they get past my dogs they will meet both barrels.
