Pamela Ballin, 48, charged in the murder of her husband, Lithonia landscaper Derrick Ricky Ballin, 53, is scheduled to make her first appearance in Magistrate Court on Feb. 16, 9 a.m.
The Ballins, owners of At Your Service Lawn Care &amp; Landscaping in Lithonia, provided service to a number of upscale homes in the community.

A felony murder warrant was issued for Ballin’s arrest on Feb. 4. She was taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where she is being held.

Police say Ballin struck her husband in the head with a blunt object. He later died from his head injuries at Grady Hospital. Police have not released information about a motive for the murder.

Ballin had told police that her husband was attacked Dec. 29 around 2:30 p.m. at their home located at 5683 Tunbridge Wells Road in Lithonia. She said he went downstairs and she heard a commotion as she hid in an upstairs bathroom.

After investigating, however, police did not believe her story. She was arrested Jan. 24 for making false statements to police. Police did not specify what the false statements were. Ballin posted a $5,000 bond and was released from the DeKalb County Jail on Jan. 27. A few days later, the charges against her were upgraded to murder and she was re-arrested.

So she's the one that hit him! Whoa! Well at least he was beaten to death right? I mean, it's a small condolence, but I'm just thinking that his suffering would not be as severe...

Well she's going to claim either accident (they were having an argument and it was done in a moment of passion)

Or she's going to claim abuse.

Only she will know the truth.

As sickening as it sounds, would have prefered if he was shot and die instantly. Being beaten to death is violent cause is not one blow you received; it is several......plus he is 6&quot;4&quot; so he had to be asleep......so hence the argument detail ......not an abuser.......you right only she will know the truth.

Wife killed husband, faked home invasion, detective says

A Lithonia woman killed her husband and then staged a home invasion to make it look as if he was killed by intruders, a DeKalb County police detective testified Tuesday.

Pamela Ballin killed her husband, Derrick &quot;Ricky&quot; Ballin, by smashing him on the back of the head with a large statue that had been on a coffee table in the living room, Det. F.J. Renauld said.

Pamela Ballin's motive was a $750,000 life insurance policy she had recently taken out on her husband, coupled with his decision to divorce her because of her affairs and because he believed she was taking money out of their business account, the detective said. The couple owned At Your Service Lawn Care &amp; Landscaping and lived in the upscale Stoneleigh subdivision.

DeKalb police initially suspected the 53-year-old landscaper was killed by home invaders on Dec. 29 when his wife called 911 at about 2:15 a.m. saying she heard intruders downstairs with her husband.

But when detectives later listened to the entire 911 call, they heard her exclaim about her husband only when she opened the door to let police inside. Ballin would have had to have crossed over her husband, who was lying on the floor with a gaping wound in his head, before she got to the door, Renauld said. While on the 911 call, he said, &quot;she didn't seem upset.&quot;

After her husband had been taken to the hospital and doctors called asking for permission to allow them to attempt life-saving surgery, Pamela Ballin told them to wait until she finished giving police her statement and drove to the hospital, Renauld said.

Detectives concluded that Ballin staged the home invasion because marks made on the back door could not have forced entry through the door. And furniture that was overturned in the house was set down gently &quot;so as not to cause any damage,&quot; Renauld said.

At the close of the hearing, a DeKalb magistrate found probable cause to continue holding Ballin, 48, at the jail on charges she murdered her husband and gave false statements to police.

i don't understand why people think they can get away with this kind of stuff - i guess greed is a big motivator - but to me truth and living free are bigger motivators

ApplePie ..it is sad to say this but I am not surprised.. A few people even thought about that in the earlier pages.

These people need to watch TruTV now and then.. yuh cyan fool investigators these days. The technology and investigative methods make it VERY hard to conceal a crime in these times.

Wendy when it happen quite a few of us, family and friends suspected this but we had to wait and watch things pan out........it is/was horrible the way he died.....there is still a lot of info that is being left out, but you are right these homicide investigators not easy to fool and they new from jump she was lying......the question now is who else was involved.......other members of her family was also arrested.
