Roger Ailes has resigned from Fox News amid sexual harassment allegations

Ailes, 76, one of the most powerful men in the media business, was thought to be untouchable until two weeks ago, when ex-anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit against him.

Within days, other women also came forward with similar accounts of harassment.Some of the allegations dated back to the 1960s; others were much more recent. Fox's 9 p.m. host Megyn Kelly told investigators that Ailes harassed her a decade ago.

IF these women were harassed and these were not casting couch scenarios, why did it take some of them 50 YEARS to come forward.

I didn't include the link as I thought it was too explicit but here is what some of the women admitted to doing.

I got a call directly from Roger asking me to come down and to make sure I wore a garter belt and stockings. This was right after pantyhose came into use, and I said, "Why would you want me to do that instead of pantyhose?" He said, "If your legs look good in a garter belt, I’ll know you have great legs." So I go into his office and right away he says, "Sit on the sofa and lift your skirt up." I had to do these different poses.

I recall very clearly, he said he’d put me on the show but I needed to go to bed with him. I was a really shy girl, but I was a little cheeky, so I said, "Oh yeah, you and who else?" And he said, "Only me and a few of my select friends." I said, "Well, if you think I have star quality and you can make money off my looks, I don’t think it’d matter if I went to bed with you or not." And he said, "Oh, pretty girls like you are a dime a dozen." The interview ended quickly. I was called in to do the show and I remember passing Roger in the hallway. He pretended not to know who I was.

It was around 1984; I was about 30. I had just arrived in New York. My agent was hoping to get me into broadcasting. I had an appointment with Ailes. He had a camera set up and a little desk and a script for me. It was a cooking kind of thing, talking about food and whatnot. After he taped me, he locked the door and said he didn’t want any interruptions. I figured out pretty quickly there was no job and this was just a ruse.
He pulled out a garter belt and stockings and told me to put them on. I was very nervous; I didn’t know what to do. He was standing there and I put them on. He wanted me to model them for him. After that, something sexual took place, but I blocked it out of my mind. I don’t know if I engaged with him orally or he engaged with himself. I felt I was being used for his sexual satisfaction. I felt very threatened. He wanted me to take the lingerie home for the next time.

In May 2002, a 20-year-old college student scored an accounting internship with Fox News, but to her surprise she ended up being assigned to work for Ailes, the woman recalled in an interview with The Post.The woman fit the profile of a future Fox News standout. She was pretty and blond.
Not long after she started the job, Ailes asked her to get him a copy of Maxim, the racy men’s magazine.
“When I gave it to him, he said: ‘There are some great articles in here. And you’re pretty enough to be in here. You look like the women in here. You have great legs. If you sleep with me, you could be a model or a newscaster.’ ”
She told him she “wasn’t that kind of person.” But he persisted, she said.
“At first it was once a week,” she said. “Then it got to be every day.”
She said she quit after only a few weeks.
“When I told him I was leaving, he said he was sorry I was leaving and that he was really disappointed that I didn’t sleep with him,” she recalled. “He said, ‘You could have gotten anything you wanted.’ ”
“And then he grabbed me,” she said, “and grabbed my ***.”

He also pushed for a very specific look: blond and leggy. Television had long been the realm of perfectly coiffed commentators and anchors, but under Ailes, Fox News seemed to be taking the ethos to another level.
“Generally, women accept that at Fox you are expected to wear skirts [and] dresses and that the makeup people are going to slather it on and make you look like a bimbo,” said a former frequent guest commentator. One time, the former commentator said, higher-ups at the network reprimanded makeup artists for putting her on-air without false eyelashes, even though she hated wearing them.

A late-night anchor boasted about the “leg chair” on his set, where the audience could get a full view of the on-air talent’s legs.“From the very beginning, Roger wanted attractive women, translucent desks,” a prominent early staffer said in an interview. The message from Ailes was unmistakable, the former staffer said: “I want to see her legs. I want the viewers to see their legs. I want people to watch Fox News even if the sound is turned down.”
The signals sent by Ailes were quickly picked up by the employees, the former staffer said. Some women began showing up to news meetings in short skirts and blouses that showed their cleavage.

Gloria Steinem worked at the New York Playboy Club in 1963. She was able to document working conditions which less than ideal. Her expose forced some changes at basically what is a strip club.

In a civilized country of laws, workplaces have rules and regulations, they have to follow, no matter how horny the boss and his help get.
20th Century Fox is not the Playboy Club, it is a media organization. The fact is, ole green balls lured fragile women into his trap and took advantage of them.
That it was revealed today, after decades of abuse, maybe it is unfortunate, but the women are the victims here, not Mr. Potato Head!

But, the women did not have to wear skimpy clothing, sleep with him or give him a EDIT. They could have quit. These were mostly attractive blondes who had options.

As for Gloria Steinhem exposing condition as at the Playboy Club, I missed that memo. Is that what her article was about.

Hugh Hefner is a dawg of the highest order, however, I have no sympathy for women who dresses up like a bunny rabbits showing off her boobs and letting men ogle dem. Ditto for strippers. What did they expect, that they would be treated with the same respect as men?

The only sympathy I have is for young uneducated women who are forced to leave abusive situations (e.g. sexual abuse or physical abuse by a father) and this is the only job they can get.

Women who choose these jobs because they think it will help them get ahead or further their modelling careers...I have no sympathy for.
