of course it valid, richard. just because the average joe fails to realize (or conduct themselves within that realm) doesnt make it less valid.

i agree that all politics is local...which is why i dont look to washington when i need things done. i go and <span style="text-decoration: line-through">stalk</span> write letters to my govenor and local officials that ARE NOT in DC. now dont get me wrong...we need washington for agenda setting and all of that...but when it come to actually accomplishing something that directly effects my everyday life....I say stay local. </div></div>

Good point..facts don't matter any more. hell everything is on tape right now and still that don't matter. We got leaders cheating on their spouce and still maintain their seats..then how do you expect to hold that person accountable for looking after your best intrest??

and you attribute that to that Ownens was best for local interest? I think they were jus late on the scence and it got a bit messy..its was still very close... scosafavva got enuff votes to have put their person well over the top

This is/was GOP territory...a safe seat. The seat had been a lock for the GOP since the end of the Civil War. A win by a Democrat was unprecedented and wholly unexpected regardless of the margin of victory. He was never given a chance at the beginning of the race.......well, until the litmus test crew flew in to tell the locals who to run.

The voters were upset.....enough..

With regards to the loss of the seat in Massachusetts it only stands to reason that it is cause for concern since the passage of the Health Care Bill was dependent on whether a Democrat still hold the seat or not. A lot is riding on the passage of that Bill.

What is happening in America on the political scene is nothing new...it shows how fickle MOST are and must have<span style="font-weight: bold"> instant gratification</span> in every facet of their lives. It's as American as apple pie.

Obama ran on the &quot;politics of &quot;&quot;change&quot;&quot; &quot; Many who gave George Bush two terms in the white House had to face the grim reality that in the long run they found where they couldn't pay their rent/mortgage...their house was in foreclosure...the got laid off from their jobs...lost THEIR MEDICAL COVERAGE/INSURANCE...and maxed out their credit cards or could no longer use them etc etc...and most of all many were rendered homeless.

They had NO choice but to vote for change, and the better of the two candidates.


Now change is coming rather slowly, they are not used to anything happening slowly so to speak, so now many, not all, are willing to <span style="font-weight: bold">switch parties</span> and vote for the &quot;opposition&quot; to voice their distaste.

This is what I think happened in Mass; plus the last minute pick of the Dem. candidate wasn't the best...many other Democratic seats are shaky as well, including Schumer's in New York [according to the recent polls]; but theoretically, this has nothing to do with cohesion in the Republican party...any party that pushes Palin in front to be the National spokesman, their poster baby is in deep sh*t as far as *I* am concerned.

If they want a jacka** in the White House come next election, then so be it...history has a way of revisiting itself.

Your comments highlighted for all to see why the Republicans do not represent the interest of average Americans. They may crave and solicit their votes with empty promises but will give them nothing specific in return. I am sure there are a few here that can remember the The Reagan &quot;trickle down effect theory&quot; that states that when tax breaks, etc are given to big business and corporations, small folks at the bottom will benefit... It was at that moment, I realised that the GOP was really the Rich man's party; is it any wonder, they dont want to extend H/Care for middle and poor Americans?...

and you Barosa are making the same mistake that most people in the USA make and that is supposing that having a Democrat in office rather than a republican will make much difference at all in how the working people fare.

Bush got us into Iraq and Afghanistan, opened Guantanamo and other overseas torture centers , ran up the deficit did not change the health care system or want to and I defy you to show me that (so far) Obama or the Democrats are any different.

True, Obama TALKS the talk but he doesn't walk the walk.
Were he as different as some dreamers would have him, as noble and high-minded, he would never have gotten the nomination from his own party.
The Democrats at the top responsible for putting up a nominee who would represent their traditional pro-war and pro-business stances, unlike the gullible voters, KNEW who Obama was and is and what he was and is is a tool of the establishment status quo, nothing more, nothing less.



Not only is there relatively little difference in the two business parties, there is also no alternative available to the voters.
