So unno hear about the Tennessee Grandmother who sent the likkle bwoy they adopted from Russia back to Russia when him nuh wok out fi har. She said he is violent, threatened to kill a list of people and burn the house down over them. So she bought him a one way ticket back to Russia, put a note in his bag "return to sender" (basically), damaged goods, and sent him back with no escort and no notiication for anyone to pick him up. Now Russia says they don't want to send anymore of their kids here (and you DO know why people would seek Russian adoptions)....now they can always go the Maddona and Brangelina route again.

This is some serious ish.. ...and the Russians are correct. They should halt all adoptions especially to the US...did you see how many Russian adopted children have died after coming to the US?

What she did to the little bouy was wikkid, cruel and inhuman...just showing that she wasn't fit to be a parent in the first place.

How many children adopted from Russia have died after coming to the US? Russian children are still considered citizens of Russia until they are 18 years old when the child chooses if they wish to remain a Russian citizen. As such whenever Russian children adopted into US families are abused and especially if the abuse gets media attention, <span style="font-weight: bold">all adoptions </span> are halted while the investigation takes place.

What strikes me odd are two things:

The child came to the US in September. Russia requires follow up homestudies post placement for three months. Did nothing come up then?

Why did the adoptive parent not seek help by at first contacting the agency if she felt the child was not a good fit. The agency is correct in that if the parent wishes to dissolve the adoption, the agency will make all efforts to place the child with another family.

December 18, 2003 - Alex Pavlis:

age 6, of Illinois, was beaten to death by his U.S. adopted mother, Irma, 6 weeks after his adoption from Russia. He was found to have 32 bruises, scars, and cuts. Irma had a difficult time with Alex. He banged his head on the walls, floors, and defecated and urinated on himself. Reports indicate that his injuries could have been self-inflicted. Irma was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
January 22, 2005 - Dennis Merryman:
age 8, born Dennis Uritsky, of Harford County, Maryland died after suffering cardiac arrest brought on by starvation. He weighed 37 pounds. Both parents, Samuel and Donna Merryman, were arrested and charged with manslaughter and first degree child abuse resulting in death and reckless endangerment. He was adopted almost 5 years ago.
July 2, 2005 - Nina Hilt:
age 2, of Wake Forest, North Carolina died after suffering several blows to her abdomen. Her adoptive mother, Peggy Hilt, In March 2006, Hilt plead guilty to second degree murder to avoid a charge of first degree murder. She said that she was frustrated due to the lack of bonding between Nina and herself. Hilt's lawyer said that she was an alcoholic and suffered from mental problems. May 25, 2006, Peggy Hilt was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of her daughter. Nina was adopted in 2003. Take a moment to remember Nina.
March 7, 2008 - Nikolai Emelyantsev:
age 14 months, of Utah died from a skull fracture, the result of what is believed to be blunt force trauma to the head. The infant also suffered from a bruised face, head, knee and anus. Adoptive mom, Kimberly Emelyantsev, was charged with one count of first-degree murder. A felony charge of child abuse was filed a day later. Adoptive dad, Fyodor Emelyantsev, was also charged with one count of felony child abuse in the case of the 4-year-old child, another Russian adoptee. For more details see the blog.
July 8, 2008 - Chase Harrison:
age 21 months, of Virgina died of heat-stroke after adoptive father, Miles Harrison forgot the child in the back of the family Suburban. It was not the father's usual routine to transport the child to daycare. He forgot the child in the back of the vehicle for 9 hours, while he went to work. The court did not find the adoptive father guilty, stating that the father had already suffered enough. The baby was born Dmitry Yakovlev in Russia's Pskov Region's children house. He was adopted by Miles and Carol Harrison three months prior to his death.
August 25, 2009 - Nathaniel Craver:

age 7 years, died of brain injuries. Nanette and Michael Craver of Pennsylvania were charged with first-degree murder for the beating death of their adopted son. Ivan Skorobogatov, renamed Nathaniel Craver was adopted in 2003, from Russia along with his twin sister. The Cravers insist that the child was self injurious. Preliminary hearings are set for March 31, 2010.

The family bought the boy a plane ticket home and paid a man in Russia $200 to take him from the airport to the Russian education ministry. He arrived alone Thursday on a flight from Washington.

Russia's children's rights commissioner said on radio Saturday that three families have already come forward and asked to adopt the boy.

The problem is that the boy is an American citizen. And have all rights to stay in the country.
She have no rights to deport him to any country.That is the responsibility of the courts.

I'm also wondering in light of this what the stats are for children being killed by abuse who were adopted from ANYWHERE? Would someone be more prone to hurt them? Just wondering.

Hi Foolya
I'm no expert, but so they say the insitutions are so overcrowded and the people so over worked, that basic needs often go unmet, they are not changed as often, and certianly don't get stimulating and developmental play. They are not cuddled and loved and don't develop that human attachement.

Heck here in Memphis they have to have volunteer grandmothers in our neonatal department at the Med to volunteer to rock and love on the babies because their own mothers don't come to see them in the hospital to avoid this very thing.
