Tivoli, Denham Town residents say they're free to leave

HUNDREDS of angry residents from Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town took to the streets in protest this morning, insisting that, despite police information, they were not being held hostage in their communities.

“A lie them a tell,” said one woman who formed part of a large group of around 400 angry protesters who gathered in front of the Denham Town Police Station.


The action from the residents came a day after police reports that residents were being held hostage inside Tivoli and Denham Town and that their phones had been confiscated.

&quot;See it deh we can come out. A lie them a tell say we held hostage and them take way we phone. See we phone deh,&quot; said one woman before jumping over debris used to block one of the entrances to the area.

The residents said they were prepared to die for don Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

<span style="font-weight: bold">And this afternoon, hundreds of the residents marched around downtown Kingston to voice their disgust with the hostage reports. </span>

<span style="font-weight: bold">Dressed in white, they cried for justice as they said the police were casting the area don in a bad light.</span>

&quot;We want justice. A lie them a tell. A false news them a spread. We can come out. We are not being held hostage,&quot; said a spokesman for the crowd which reached more than 500 strong.

The marchers walked from the police station to Gordon House and then back on to Spanish Town Road.

Even if Bruce had handed him over from day one there would still be problems.
The problem is Bruce Golding have by his ineffective Leadership have created more complex levels to the original game, put a match to it an walked away.

Security Forces awaiting court’s decision before entering Tivoli



<span style="font-weight: bold">The Minister of National Security in Jamaica, Senator Dwight Nelson, says the security forces are now waiting on the courts to decide the way forward before an attempt is made to enter the Tivoli Gardens community.</span>

Lawyers for west Kingston strongman, Christopher “Dudus” Coke, yesterday filed a motion challenging the arrest warrant, which was issued on Tuesday for him to face extradition proceedings in court.

Residents in the Tivoli Gardens community have since mounted barricades, blocking the entrances to the community.

Senator Nelson says the police will do all in their power in an attempt to diffuse the situation in a non-violent manner.

He says he will gladly welcome the intervention of any church or civic group in mediating the dispute.

Senator Nelson also says he has not received any information that the residents of west Kingston have used electrical power lines in their blockades.

Attorney-at-law K.D. Knight.At least one legal mind is opining that the initial position of the government that there was no just cause for Christopher Coke to be extradited could result in him being un-extraditable.

Speaking on RJR's Hotline on Thursday morning Attorney-at-law K.D. Knight said Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne's earlier decision to ask the court if she had the authority to sign the order could prove her undoing.

&quot;The situation will be that herself and Mr. Coke should be presenting similar arguments while the Director of Public Prosecutions, who I understand is made a party to the suit will be in this position where she might very well be arguing that no, the authority to proceed was properly issued. So the DPP would be defending the Minister of Justice whilst the Minister of Justice, based upon her own action cannot defend herself,&quot; Mr. Knight said.

Mr. Knight says the case will be a landmark one.

&quot;And I have no doubt that the lawyers will plead properly. Properly pleaded, they are going to be in an unassailable position and so it is quite probable that the authority to proceed can be quashed and therefore we are back to square one.</span> Mr. Coke cannot be extradited.
