Just my personal opinion that he didn't 'have' to leave - but as I said, that's just my personal opinion from my experience.

I personally know of couples in the exact same situation.

They all went down to city hall with a best friend, etc for witness and got married, filed and adjusted status.

They decided that they'd leave it at that and plan for an actual family wedding after they saved up etc.

But, I understand how that can be a personal choice.

Correct, they were just out of college and not READY to marry yet. Getting married for political asylum was not my daughter's dream

Yes, he knows that after they do marry they can come back if they like, but right now the world is theirs and they have no limitations, so it is no telling where these two will end up, or they just may move around the world in their lives and not stay any one place forever.

However, here are some FACTS,,,, after your year after college expires, so does your green card , your student visa paperwork,AND your temporary driver's license. My guy being a law abiding person, and having exhausted all means that a student without a lot of money had for LEGALLY staying here, did what the US govt. was requesting by having all of his legal papers expire, and quietly left and went home. </div></div> </div></div> <span style="font-size: 17pt">I fail to understand WHY a decent civil conversation on Jamaicans.com must turn contentious ALL OF THE DAMN TIME </span>

I don't think everyone should get a reprieve and I don't think everyone should be deported. I think everyone should be assessed on a case by case situation. I think the laws should be more humanitarian and less structured. I think if someone came here and stayed illegally but they show that they can better this country, they should be given leave to do so.

that's the reality of the law, actually. mi learn dat from my years working at the provincial attorney general's ministry. no two situations requiring a legal judgment are exactly the same, so there will always be differences in the application of the law.

and in a perfect world yeah, but a doctor wd do more good than say a day laborer but the day laborer can be more of a hardworder and a more productive citizen than the doctor, wd it be more favorable to grant a doctor the right to stay and the day laborer with no skills shd be deported.

that's why it can't be humanitarian and the humanitarian aspect of immigration law cannot be braodened outside of political asylum where a person is facing persecution.

A doctor can be a crook and the day laborer can be honest - see where I'm going with this

Q - you hit the nail<span style="font-weight: bold"> DIRECTLY</span> on the head, and then some.

Almost EVERYONE who is in a country illegally, feels that they are justified to remain.

So it <span style="font-weight: bold">can't</span> be about being humanitarian all the time.

People think that the immigration process and system is heartless conspiracy. But it's not about heart.

A Boston immigration judge has granted President Barack Obama's aunt, Zeituni Onyango, permission to stay in the United States, federal officials said today.

Her attorney, Margaret Wong, is expected to issue a statement at 2 p.m. in Cleveland.

Immigration Judge Leonard I. Shapiro, after hearing closed-door testimony from the Kenyan native in February, granted her plea on Friday. Onyango had defied a deportation order and lived quietly in a Boston public housing project until it was revealed shortly before the 2008 election that she was here illegally.

Onyango, who turns 58 this month, was featured in the president's memoir, Dreams from My Father, was a distant figure in his life, but she became a lightning rod in the national debate over illegal immigration.

After the publicity, she fled to Cleveland, hired Wong, and petitioned immigration judge to allow her to stay in the United States.

In February, Wong said Onyango would argue that she should stay in this country because she suffers health problems and because she feared that she would become the target of tribal violence if she were forced to return to her homeland.

Onyango said she suffers from Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disorder.

During that hearing, Shapiro heard five hours of testimony by Onyango and two physicians.
