Sorry Wahalla didn't care to respond to who gets the oil money countries that have the oil.

For the others who are thinking that like Iraq, the United States will invade Jamaica to secure any oil there let me repeat. The United States and every country on Earth has equal access to all the oil on the planet.
All it need do is buy it from OPEC.
Consider that oil drilled in Alaska doesn't go o the United States. It gets shipped to Asia because it is cheaper to ship it the shorter distance to Asia than it would be to bring it to the United States.

It is less expensive for the USA to get oil from the Middle East than it is from the fields in Alaska.

The word is fungible. It means that all the oil in the world essentially goes into one big pile and every country draws from that pool in the most economic way to get it to their country.

This would include any oil found in Jamaica and even the oil that Cuba hopes to extract.

The U.S may have an embargo in place against Cuban trade but if and when the Cubans hit a big field and start extracting the oil, the U.S will be buying Cuban crude because it is right offshore and would cost the same as Gulf of Mexico oil in transportation costs.

The price per barrel is set by OPEC.

So forget the conspiracy theories and your worries (or hopes ) that the United States will invade Jamaica to "control" the oil.
Jamaica has to sell it and the USA will BUY Jamaican like they buy all their oil.


It is up to the GOJ to make the best deal they can and get a high percentage of the oil money.

Then the question is; what will they do with the money ?

Johnny, why would you ask such a question? or is it that you think that regular folks here wouldn't have a clue on how it will be spent. You may be right, but one thing I do know is ; if and when the money start to flow, We will pay off our debts and while we are doing so, start to spend some of it to better the condition(s) of the jamaican people... Just wait and see!

the proportion of oil controled by opec has actually increased over the last decade.. And even if OPEC proportion falls there is an issue of National oil companies.... ie Gaz prom and pemex even, CNNOOC and its brothers, PETRONAS, STATOIL PROPORTION has increased.. this means that freely traded as a commodoity becomes compromised..

I know that many Jamaicans are dreaming of the day when OUR oil find will be confirmed. I've been thinking, what if our production capability equals or exceeds that of Cuba? Hmmm!! Btw, it's just conjecture and speculation ; any other type of unified entity could be a possibility. ~ I'm also aware that there are those who subscribe to the belief that Jamaica is already in the pocket of the Americans which I dont accept... I'm sure the FOLKS in Jamaica sure know where the money should be spent but then they don't have any say on how the money will be spent do they?

They are not the GOJ and neither are they the oil companies who will get that money to do with what THEY choose.

What has happened to all the bauxite money?
What has happened to all the IMF money borrowed over the years?
How much money will the oil find bring in?

Bauxite didn't bring in enough to make Jamaica much better and neither did all the borrowed money .

The oil money will also be limited and you cannot expect Jamaica to be Cuba and spread the wealth equally.
It hasn't happened in Jamaica and it is not likely to do so in the future.

One of neighbours began producing oil in 2008.. Belize.. they produce the grand total of 3511 bbl per day... Again let us not move to cartels without a drop of production... 20 million bbl.. not 20 billion or 40 billion...

That's the way I understand it.
Perhaps they use western U.S. oil to supply Denver.
The point is oil is fungible. Grade for grade it's all the same price and can be traded barrel for barrel at the point of production. So the Japanese can buy Alaska oil and we can get Venezuelan oil cheaper than from other sources and that's what is done.
Transportation costs are the factor that makes oil more or less expensive.

That's why the U.S. not having access to Cuban oil will cost the United States which is just 100 mile or so from Cuba.

The Cubans can sell their oil to anyone, anywhere on the planet.

1) the formation in question are postulated ot extend across the gulf of mexico.. like the zeichstein extends from the UK yo northern poland. And the Kupersheifer shale top rock runs form Germany to Cornwall in the uk...

2) if this was the case why then are repsol et al recruiting at the moment conventional geophysists and geologists who subscribe to the conventional theory ????.. Why not Russian theorist goldist academician ????

I disagree with golds theory.. because oil has been found sub volcanics and sub basement due to the geographic throws.. All oil comes associated with micro fossils.. The age of the carbon does not subscribe to the formation... I once had a lover who was a micro paleontologist.. ie a paneologist. and not only are geologists being used by paneologists are being recruited out... But she taught me a hell of a lot of petroleum geology under african skys during post coital conversation. Damn give some women some danger and a man who walks in the valley of the shadow fearing no evil....

I actually believe that teh deep formation tehrory may not be completely true.. I believe shallow gas associated wtih conventional Gas Hydrates make a significant contribution to hydrocarbon formation. I love gas hydrates.. .they are wonderful chemicals that form formed subtly by the polymerisation of water and carbon dioxide to form metastable cadge structures... No I cant give you links or video.. just learnt facts from hanging out with geologist, geophysists, drilling engineers and reading SPE papers while being bored.. (Interesting paper in Feb 2004 Society of Petroleum Engineer about the Caribbean basin under exploration.. I read that in Bharain waiting for visa.. that article I belives postulates the relative unexplored nature of the east of the GOM.. gvien that the Campache basin is fruitful and faulted that the Cuba, Florida side of the GOM was under explored and identified these as high probability targets. Cuba because the Helms Oxley Law and florida because of southern yanki Nimbis...

This was all based on conventional geological theory.. It could have been Petroleum Geologist.. (But I actually posted the refernce on here Jamaicans.com..).. The Walton Basin and the geology to South of Jamaica is other under explored regions.. And since then this came true as Belize has now producing with two commerical feilds.. In fact I beleive that the Columbians are looking at the islands that Jamaica and Columbia have a dispute Soveriginity over as possible claim to hydrocarbons...

No and deep water drilling began not because of the Russian theory but ratehr because geologists look at conventional theories of river carried silt in triassic rivers deltas these were then placed beyond the continetal shell.. and seismic logs showed the presence of possible formation in deeper and deeper water. Deep water came late to the US.. with the Norwegians and the Brazilians even the britz looking at water depth of 1000 + m long before the yankis... looking long before the GOM.. also deep water drilling is not actually that deep if taken into consideration the water depth... Look at the Macondo well 14000 ft depth of which 5000 ft is sea water.. 9000 ft wells are relative post holes... Deep wells of 11 km are drilled in Australia.. in Uzbeckistan, Kazahstan, even in the central norht sea where the Culeanen discovery was made last yeak by mearsk in 400 ft of water down to 5500-6000 meters.. so cuban plays are shallow relative to the seabed.. The difficulty is not the deepness of the well the difficulty is depth of the water...

And yest 22 million for over 20 blocks is small potatos.. given that the relative few take up of the Jamaican liecencing round then alot of people wrote off their 50 grand access to the data room against their tax... It takes to drill a Macondo type well @60 days at a million per day.. So that is small potatoes...

Look investing in energy and mining stocks are my hobby. I contract for a number of companies in Africa doing bad things for them and against them, and I suspect that I have gained alot of knowledge over the years.. You may dismiss my expertise as anecdotal because I dont post links and not statistics. . in fact I am thinking of investing in a company called Gold Oil ( GOO) as they have some oil properties, near shore and onshore in Cuba and are running at 2p on the AIM market.. But I will wait till some one gets a rig... then buy in...

Deep wells of 11 km are drilled in Australia.. in Uzbeckistan, Kazahstan, even in the central norht sea where the Culeanen discovery was made last yeak by mearsk in 400 ft of water down to 5500-6000 meters.. so cuban plays are shallow relative to the seabed.. The difficulty is not the deepness of the well the difficulty is depth of the water...

And yest 22 million for over 20 blocks is small potatos.. given that the relative few take up of the Jamaican liecencing round then alot of people wrote off their 50 grand access to the data room against their tax... It takes to drill a Macondo type well @60 days at a million per day.. So that is small potatoes...

If Abotic theory was true then oil never runs out and is constantly replenish in all cases, but even they acknowlege that the refill would be over a geological periods not like a spring....... This does not happen.. What is confusing is the increase in crude reserves. Increas in Crude reserves is based on increase information, ie more wells are drilled. unless you are ARAMACO and then a pencil is sharpened and reserves are double or tripled at the storke of a pen...And the change from possible reserves to how oil reserves are defined P10, P90, P 50 (10%, 50 % and 90 % probability) reserves.... Ie Shell three years back was booking P10 reserves as P90.. At moment Cuba has 20 billion possible reserves ..

It is a Russian theory, taught in all their institution of higher learning, I would think they operate under that theory as they have proven it effective.

And yes I have been at seminars where it is discussed. the annalog is Yankee Creationists who say god put the oil in place.... It is not what the Russians companies use... Vitrinite reflectance data demonstrate that at a depth of 5 km the maturity of rocks varies from the lower part of the oil window to the upper part of the gas window (Shpak, 1989). These data indicate that both Visean and Devonian source rocks are in the oil window in the western basin area and on its margins, but they are overmature with respect to oil generation elsewhere. Maturation of source rocks could have begun as early as latest Devonian or earliest Carboniferous time (fig. 6). Over most of the basin, maximum burial and maturation were achieved by the beginning of the Artinskian compressional event and associated uplift. Now one must consider that if the oil is seeping up from below, and comes to rest in an area where organic material is, then the oil itself will have absorb some organic material as time elapse.
